Disappointing Experience with Unnecessary Rules and Poor Quality

I recently visited this restaurant and unfortunately, my experience was far from satisfactory. Here are the key points that stood out negatively:

Unnecessary and Unrealistic Rules The restaurant enforces many rules that feel unnecessary and overly restrictive. For example, customers are not allowed to go upstairs, and wearing shorts is prohibited. Such regulations make the atmosphere uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

Uncomfortable Seating and Table Design The seating arrangement and table design were very uncomfortable. It felt like the layout was not thought through for customer comfort, which affected the overall dining experience.

Poor Food Quality and Portion Size The quality of the food, especially the main courses, was very disappointing. The ingredients seemed cheap, and the taste was far from authentic, particularly for the Bengali dishes which lacked their original flavor and instead had a bad taste. The portion sizes were also very small, definitely not suitable for adults. For instance, I ordered chicken chap, but it came with just a tiny piece of bone and was priced ridiculously high.

Health Concerns Worse still, the food served appeared spoiled and old, which caused me health issues after my visit. This is a serious concern regarding the restaurant’s hygiene and food safety standards.

Unjustified Charges The restaurant also imposes a mandatory service tax, which felt completely unjustified given the poor service and food quality.

Poor Washroom Conditions The washroom was extremely dark and unsafe, posing a risk of falls and serious injuries. This adds to the overall negative impression of the establishment.

Conclusion Overall, this restaurant fails to deliver on multiple fronts—from uncomfortable seating and restrictive rules to poor food quality and hygiene concerns. The high prices do not justify the subpar experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for a pleasant and authentic...

Jollygunj in J.P Nagar is a true gem for those who cherish the flavors and essence of Calcutta, the “City of Joy.” This newly opened bar offers a unique blend of Calcutta-inspired food and an electric atmosphere, making it an instant contender among the best spots in town.

Walking in, you’re welcomed by a vast, vibrant setting, perfectly blending modern vibes with a nostalgic touch. The interiors are beautifully done—spacious, inviting, and ideal for both casual outings and lively evenings with friends. One of the standout features is the fantastic playlist of Bollywood classics that take you on a trip down memory lane while keeping the energy levels high throughout the night.

But the true magic lies in the food and drinks. Inspired by Calcutta’s rich culinary scene, the menu is brimming with authentic and bold flavors. Highlights include the crispy Aloo Tuk, succulent Calcutta Chicken Fry, flavorful Tandoori Soya Chaap, and zesty Calcutta Chili Chicken. For those looking for unique bites, the Spicy Peanut Chicken, juicy Chicken Tikka, and the traditional Nimki Ghugni Chaat are absolute must-tries. Meat lovers will be delighted by the tender Park Street Mutton Seekh and the crispy Calcutta Fish Fry that embody the soul of Kolkata’s food heritage.

Complementing the menu is a stellar lineup of cocktails, each crafted to perfection. The Masala Chai Sour adds a punch of spice and nostalgia, while the Kasundi Kolada offers a refreshing twist with its unique blend of flavors—perfect for sipping as you soak in the lively vibes.

The staff is attentive, ensuring your glasses are full and plates never empty. Despite the lively buzz, the service remains quick, friendly, and genuinely enthusiastic.

Jollygunj is not just a bar; it’s a celebration of Calcutta’s vibrant culture, packaged beautifully for J.P Nagar’s social scene. Whether you’re looking for great food, drinks, music, or a mix of it all, this place checks every box.

Highly recommend it for an evening of joy...

Well—after hearing so much about this place, I finally visited with my family. Honestly, my experience was mixed.

What’s good? Food Quality: If you’re craving Bengali cuisine with a modern twist, this place delivers. The food quality is genuinely very good. Portion Size: They offer both half and full portions. However, be mindful that their definition of “full” is smaller compared to many other restaurants, though the pricing is aligned accordingly—so no complaints, just a heads-up. For instance: we ordered a full portion of fish fry and got six quarter-sized fish cubes. Similarly, the egg devil came as one boiled egg sliced into four pieces, each with a thick layer of potato. Drinks: Decent options—tried their mocktails and lemonade, which were perfectly fine.

What’s NOT good (in my opinion): Atmosphere: The JP Nagar outlet is quite spacious, but surprisingly, there is no air-conditioning! While Bangalore weather is pleasant, it certainly doesn’t feature year-round snowfall—so during lunch hours, the space felt very stuffy and uncomfortable. To make it worse, there were no alternative cooling options—no tower fans, no power coolers—nothing. Do keep this in mind if you’re planning a visit. Service: The staff seemed to think that having a QR code on the table substitutes for actual service. The “call waiter” feature didn’t work, and we had to repeatedly request basic things like water refills, cutlery replacements (our table wasn’t set properly to begin with), and even the bill. This was a major turn-off.

Other Notes: Valet parking is good and spacious—no complaints here.

Bottom line: If you want to enjoy their tasty food, I would honestly recommend ordering via Swiggy or Zomato. It’s much better than enduring the ‘steamy’, mostly self-service dining experience—unless you particularly want to combine your meal with a steam room/sauna...

Recently visited this place thinking they're serving good Bengali dishes but unfortunately the experience was far from satisfactory. Let's get into the details. Food Quality: Both the Fish Fry and the Chicken Peanut starters tasted stale, which was extremely disappointing. The freshness of ingredients is a basic expectation, and it wasn’t met here. Drinks: The drinks were equally unimpressive, lacking the quality and flavor one would expect. Service: When we first addressed the issues to the 1st server of the food being stale and smelly, he didn't give us any solution. Instead, another server was sent to us to understand the issue. We repeatedly kept saying either give us a fresh batch or remove the item from the bill. By the time 1hr has passed, the chef finally came out, justifying that the fish isn't stale lemon was used in marination, which is why it tasted sour. We were even somewhat forced to try another fish item but we were extremely disappointed by the whole ordeal which made us leave us the place finally. Overall Experience: We could barely eat anything due to the subpar quality and eventually decided to leave. It was truly disheartening to walk away from a meal feeling this dissatisfied. Moreover, we were really excited to try this new place but this poor experience just ruined our night. We even had food poisoning the next day because of the stale items they served us. Hope the restaurant addresses these issues promptly to improve the dining experience for future patrons but wouldn't recommend anyone to waste their money on stale food.

This place offers great value for money, with prices noticeably lower than similar spots like Levels, Tipsy Bull, Indian Biere House, Fat Owl, or The Scene. The ambience is one of its strongest points, with a large grand outdoor section that stands out, though there are fewer photogenic spots compared to some competitors. Seating is abundant and usually available, even during busy times. The interiors follow a dark orange and red lighting theme, which some might find appealing while others may not. Music is always playing, generally good tracks, though the volume can feel loud for certain guests. Service is impressively quick, possibly faster than most places of this kind. Orders are placed through their own website that is accessed by scanning a QR code on the table, and the food arrives almost immediately after ordering. Payments can be made via their website, Zomato, cash, or card. Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian options are plentiful, along with alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Smoking is allowed, and while you can bring your own cakes, no other outside food is permitted. The best time to visit is after 6 or 7 in the evening, though after 6 pm a dress code applies, requiring shoes and ensuring feet are not exposed. Valet parking is available downstairs, and the venue is located on the third floor. The only drawback is that the service tax is slightly higher than usual and was non-negotiable for us for some reason, which can dampen an otherwise smooth experience.
