Disappointing Experience – Avoid This

I regretfully visited this overrated place, drawn in by the hype, but the experience was far from satisfactory.

Hygiene is a major concern; the food preparation area lacks cleanliness, and there are no visible efforts to maintain a sanitary environment. The overall taste and quality of the food were subpar, failing to live up to the establishment’s supposed legacy.

The staff’s attitude left something to be desired, and the atmosphere was affected by a less upscale crowd, creating a somewhat less enjoyable experience.

Shockingly, there were no proper queues, creating chaos during busy hours. The absence of clean vessels for food preparation (see pictures) added to the overall unhygienic impression.

It’s evident that the quality is not being maintained, and the establishment is struggling to uphold its once-revered reputation. Save your money and avoid this place – there are far better options around that offer a more satisfying culinary experience.

I can’t recommend this place. Avoid these fake food bloggers/fancy YouTubers. Steer clear of this establishment, as it appears to be frequented by budget-conscious influencers who undermine authenticity with questionable reviews.

It’s advisable to disregard any mention of this place on...

Lotan Chole Kulche is a legendary street food stall in Old Delhi, famous for its spicy and flavorful chole (chickpeas) served with soft, freshly made kulche (Indian flatbread).

Location: The stall is located in the bustling area of Chawri Bazaar, near Fatehpuri Masjid. It has been a popular spot for locals and tourists alike for decades.

History: Established several decades ago, Lotan Chole Kulche has become an iconic part of Delhi's street food culture. The stall is named after its founder, Lotan, who started the business in the early 1970s.

Food: The chole served here is known for its unique, spicy taste, often made more intense with a special blend of masalas (spices). It's topped with chopped onions, green chilies, and a squeeze of lemon, adding to its tangy and spicy flavor profile. The kulche, soft and slightly crispy, complement the chole perfectly.

Experience: Eating at Lotan Chole Kulche is as much about the experience as it is about the food. The stall's location in the heart of Old Delhi, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the busy market, adds to the charm.

This place is a must-visit for anyone looking to experience authentic Delhi...

🌟 5-Star Review for Lotan Chole Kulche – A Delhi Street Food Legend! 🌟

If you’re in Delhi and haven’t tried Lotan Chole Kulche, you’re truly missing out on one of the city’s most iconic street food experiences. This isn’t just a meal—it’s a burst of tradition, spice, and soul in every bite.

The chole (chickpeas) are perfectly cooked and swimming in a rich, spicy, tangy gravy that packs both heat and flavor. The signature red masala they use is absolutely legendary—bold, fiery, and addictive. And the kulchas? Soft, fluffy, and lightly toasted to perfection, making the ideal pair for scooping up that spicy goodness.

Despite being a humble street-side setup, the hygiene is well-maintained, and the service is quick and efficient. The owners and staff are friendly and clearly passionate about what they do—serving up generations-old flavors with pride.

Lotan Chole Kulche is more than just a snack—it’s a piece of Delhi’s culinary heritage. Whether you’re a local or a visitor, this spicy delight is a must-try. Come hungry, and don’t forget to squeeze that lemon and ask for the medium spice if you're not ready for the full fire!

🔥 Authentic. Spicy....

If you are coming by car/bike park near main road (Opposite syam sweets) and walk for 250 metres. You need to take coupon. Full plate of Chhole Kulcha is Rs 60. Most of the time you will have huge crowd. Hence you need to wait for 10 -15 minutes. On Sunday waiting time will be 20-25 minutes. Kulcha is made of Sooji hence it is light. Chhole is made of small kabuli chana. Generally in Delhi, safed matar is used for Chhole. You can alter the spice to your level. And medium spicy is quite handful to handle. So when you order, they also ask if you want butter, which is Rs 20 extra. Then they give you a small Amul Butter . You give it to the guy making your Chhole and he’ll add it to your chhole. They give a free soup cup also. Taste is quite unique in comparison to other regular Chhole kulcha places. Hence if some like their taste, they are coming since last 40-50 years. Also, this is located in the back lanes. I went on a Sunday and everything was closed until I saw a big crowd and we knew that this is the Spot.

If u r looking for proper and authentic street food that too right in the streets of Chandni Chowk, then this is the place. The place is real definition of street food. Passing through the congested streets of chandni chowk, here comes the very famous "Lotan Kulche Wala" sitting over a staircase in front of an old pharmacy. They serve you piping hot "chole" or "boiled chickpeas" by mixing a blene of spicy water and some additional masalas, garnished with coriander leaves. "Kulchas" or the "bread" is not heated and served at normal temperature. There are various options for chole depending upon how spicier you want them to be. The other delight that u must try is spicy yet tasty water of chole. They charge very nominal amount and serve u the water in plastic glass. If u ask about the taste, then I must say that it wasn't that yummy. I don't know whether my expectations were too high or tge taste really is average. I hope this was helpful enough. Wish u a happy exploring this place!
