Mumbai’s iconic seafood restaurant Bharat Excellensea is located on the ground floor of Bharat House at Fort and is close to CSTM. Anyone with a penchant for seafood in Mumbai will remember BE for excellent fresh seafood at a price that doesn’t dent hole in your pocket.

They serve culinary delights from Kerala, Tamilnadu and even Thailand. To ensure authenticity and freshness seafood is sourced everyday, spices are brought from Kerala and coconut are ferried from Mangluru.

The place is bright and cheerful with French windows, beige facade, natural fabrics, muted tones, comfortable seating arrangements and floor to ceiling arched windows. A flight of stairs takes you to the upper deck with a large cobalt blue map of Aapli Mumbai. The stairs takes you to the mezzanine alcove with ornamental fish tanks for decor. The ambiance is deeply inspired by the Mumbai’s sea connections.

The Outrageously delicious food cooking spikes endorphins. We tried some of their iconic dishes and were extremely impressed with their preparations & presentations. ♦️Virgin Pinacolada ♦️Strawberry Delight ♦️Crab meat soup ♦️Excellensea prawns tandoori ♦️Rawas masala Fry ♦️Mutton Pepper ♦️Prawns Gassi with Neer Dosa

We ended our meals with delightful and refreshing desserts. Each dessert was unique in taste and felt like a reassuring hug. Each can be crowd puller on their own. Desserts tried: ♦️Tub Tim Grob ♦️Elaneer Payasum

The services are quick, staff is courteous and proudly offers the best to suit your interests. We were supported by Mr. Nawaz, who was highly professional and respectful.

A must visit place to connect to our roots when in Mumbai with authentic preparations, flavors, and...

Dining at this restaurant was truly a delightful experience that combined great food, warm hospitality, and a soothing ambience. From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere set the tone for an enjoyable meal. The interiors are tastefully done, with a calm and welcoming vibe that makes it suitable for both casual outings and family dinners.

The service was one of the highlights of the evening. The staff was attentive without being intrusive, and every request was met with a smile. Their recommendations turned out to be spot on, ensuring that we got the best of what the kitchen had to offer.

When it came to the food, I was thoroughly impressed. The clams were cooked to perfection, retaining their natural flavor while being enhanced with just the right seasoning. The mutton dish was another standout — tender, juicy, and full of rich taste that spoke volumes about the chef’s expertise. To accompany these, we ordered appam and neer dosa, both of which were soft, fresh, and absolutely delightful. They paired beautifully with the curries and elevated the entire dining experience.

What makes this restaurant even more appealing is that such high-quality food is offered at a very reasonable price. It’s rare to find a place that balances taste, quality, and affordability so well.

Overall, this restaurant is a must-visit for anyone who loves authentic flavors served in a pleasant setting. I would happily recommend it and look forward to...

Will not visit again.

Overall 1 start rating as I cannot give a zero.

Review: This was the first time I visited this place.

Total Chaos of the management was visible and they were running all over the place for nothing.

Our order was in sequence of mocktails followed by starters and then meals.

But the order was served in no sequence at all. Mocktails did not come at all in the beginning. The starters took longer time and were not ready before the main course.

Half the order of starter was not even served. We found out that the lower and higher category staff did not even correctly understand exactly what we had ordered in mocktails as it was still not served. [E.g. Red wine Sangria was ordered and after half an Hour the staff told us that they don't have it in stock. (They don't even know that sangria is to be prepared.)]

Before giving the starters the main course was ready to be served.

Eventually fed up with the situation we started having the meal.

Till the time we had finished half of the main course the remaining starters came but again one dish was missing. We refused to take it as we had enough Chaos by then. Still the dish was charged in the bill. And then a 10% discount was offered which was frankly, total nonsense.

Overall the worst management skills were seen today at this place.

Portion of few dishes was very less in quantity as compared...

Was told this was one of the costliest seafood restaurants in South Mumbai so I had to see what was the hype. There are two seating floors and we were told to sit on the first floor despite preferring the ground floor which was empty. The seating arrangments were very sombre, and the mood lightings were amazing, but they could work on that low ceiling of theirs and the obnoxious 2010 music choices. Before we even ordered our food, a huge lady sauntered in with a tray full of fish and live crabs to explain the house specials. After some deliberation with her, we decided on tempura prawns, rawa fish tikka, rawa gussi, neer dosa and chicken biryani. 1) The tempura prawn wasn't authethic at all, and neither was it Tiger Prawns, but I appreciated the crisp taste nevertheless. 2) The rawa fish tikka was absolutely mouth watering, and was so soft and broke apart on the knife that it tasted like paneer. The masala was good too, but the portion size left much to be desired. It was twice as less than a normal one. 3) The fish gussi and neer dosa is something I don't have much of an opinion of, it was tolerable at best for someone who doesn't like seafood. 4) The chicken biryani was splendid but I do think the portion size was atrocious as you can see in the pictures. Overall, it was an experience with quick service and tasty seafood.

Just experienced a fantastic meal at the iconic Bharat Excellensea, a 35-year-old gem in Mumbai's Ballard Estate! The restaurant has been recently revamped, and the ambiance is now even more inviting. But the real star is the food! As a self-proclaimed seafood addict, I was in heaven. I sampled a wide range of dishes, each bursting with flavor and freshness. The Tom Kha Soup was a fragrant and comforting start. The Prawns Butter Garlic were perfectly cooked and incredibly flavorful. The *Yellow Chili Prawns packed a delicious spicy punch. The Surmai Masala Fry was a classic done exceptionally well. The Thalasseri Clams were a fiery delight, showcasing the flavors of Kerala. The Rawas Gassi was a rich and creamy Mangalorean-style curry. The Neer Dosa and Appam were the perfect accompaniments to soak up the delicious gravies. But the real surprise was the Sitaphal Tricones Holige! This innovative dessert was a delightful fusion of Indian and modern flavors. A must-try! Overall: Bharat Excellensea is a must-visit for any seafood lover in Mumbai. The restaurant offers a wide variety of fresh, flavorful dishes with influences from across India's coastal regions. The recent revamp has enhanced the dining experience, making it a perfect spot for a special occasion or a memorable meal. Highly recommended!
