Pizza Express in Colaba is more than just a restaurant; it's an experience. Stepping inside is like being transported to a slice of buzzing, Italian-inspired energy, right in the heart of South Mumbai.
Let's be honest, the dough here is undeniably the star. The texture is always spot on, whether you opt for the Romana base - thin, crispy, and perfectly foldable - or the Classic. It's that perfect balance of chewiness and crispness that keeps you coming back for more.
We ordered garlic bread with cheese, an 11-inch Classic Soho 6, and Calabrese Verde Veg. The garlic bread was round, unlike the ones we had in other outlets. The Classic Soho isn't just a pizza; it's a comforting hug in pizza form. The base was perfectly crisp – that satisfying crunch with every bite that tells you it was freshly made and cooked to perfection. The simple yet elegant topping of mozzarella, tomatoes, and fresh basil was a testament to the "less is more" philosophy. The sauce was vibrant and tangy, the mozzarella melted into creamy pools of goodness, and the basil added a fragrant, herbaceous lift. It's a classic for a reason – expertly balanced flavours and a genuinely delightful pizza experience. The Calabrese Verde Veg pizza is packed with flavour and texture. The base, just like the Soho, was impeccably cooked. But the real stars here are the toppings. The blend of roasted vegetables (I could taste the sweetness of bell peppers and the earthiness of mushrooms), coupled with the spicy Calabrian chillies, was a match made in pizza heaven. The pesto verde sauce added a vibrant, herby freshness that cut through the richness of the cheese and vegetables.
The Colaba branch boasts a vibrant and inviting atmosphere. The open kitchen lets you watch the skilled pizzaiolos at work, adding to the authentic feel. The service is consistently attentive and friendly. The staff are knowledgeable about the menu and are always happy to offer recommendations. Even on a busy night, they manage to maintain a cheerful and efficient demeanour.
If I had to nitpick, the prices are on the higher side compared to some other pizza places in the city. However, the quality of ingredients and the consistently enjoyable experience justify the cost. Also, during peak hours, there can be a bit of a wait, so arriving early or making a reservation is highly recommended.
Pizza Express in Colaba is a classic for a reason. Whether you're a local or a tourist, a pizza aficionado or just looking for a satisfying meal, Pizza Express is worth a visit. It's a place that continues to deliver the dough, the delight, and the memories, time...

Visited Pizza Express yesterday, expecting a good dining experience but was left truly disappointed.
Slow Service: Service was incredibly slow. Even basic requests like a can of Coke and a glass of water took far too long—Coke arrived after 45 minutes, and the water only came after reminding the waiter five times. Order Issues: They served us an extra pizza that we hadn’t ordered. When we pointed this out, they refused to cancel it, saying it had already been punched in. Menu Limitations: We ordered Jain pink sauce pasta, but 10 minutes later, the waiter informed us that pink sauce was unavailable in Jain, which should’ve been mentioned upfront. Incorrect Order: We ordered Jain white sauce pasta, but it was served non-Jain. Very disappointing and careless, especially with dietary preferences. Bland Drink: The berry slush tasted like plain ice with no flavor, a huge letdown. Service Charge Dispute: When the bill arrived, we noticed a service charge. Given the poor service, we requested its removal. After asking multiple times, the waiter said he needed to follow a “procedure” and take down my name and number. Even after that, the billing counter outright refused, saying they couldn’t remove it, which is close to illegal since service charges aren’t mandatory. After a lot of back-and-forth, I ended up paying the full bill out of sheer frustration. Zomato Offer Issue: We had a Zomato offer, but they claimed drinks couldn’t be included on the bill. When we requested a separate bill for drinks, they insisted on adding a food item to it and chose the highest-priced one, effectively blocking our discount.
For a reputed brand like Pizza Express, this experience was incredibly disappointing. The service issues, charge disputes, and overall handling...
Read moreI never anticipate a predominantly pizza place to be all round when it comes to patron experience and satisfaction. Pizza Express has changed my perception and set a new standard in my mind.
Weekends will most certainly get very crowded. If you can book a table, do so. You will have a long wait if you choose first come, first served.
The ambiance is simple wonderful. The restaurant covers two floors. The interiors resemble a fancy place but the food is your recognisable favourite. We were seated right next to where the chefs flipped their pizza. The location is Instagram worthy but it isn't the best as the pasta dishes being cooked tend to make you cough.
We came for the pizzas. We first went for the Padana. The goat cheese went very well with the caramelized onions. I highly recommend the Margherita Bufala. A small twist on a classic, this pizza is 'the bomb'. The chunks of mozzarella cheese were oh so good. Combined with a perfectly cooked base, tangy tomato sauce, and fresh basil, this was one tasty treat.
The biggest kudos goes to the staff at Pizza Express. Service was nothing short of impeccable. Our server was amazing. The hosts were also awesome. The hosts periodically checked up on us to see if we were having a great time and also helped us change seats when we weren't comfortable with the original.
I can't wait to head back to Pizza Express to try more pizzas from their menu. The price is...
