I came to know about this place from the infamous Kunal Vijaykar’s show, “Khaane Mein Kya Hai” on Youtube.
Much to my dissatisfaction this place turned out to be a roller coaster of likes and dislikes. The moment I stepped in the narrow old house like door, the restaurant smelt very “FISHY”. I have been to many small local restaurants that do not smell fishy at all.
There is one person who cleans the tables, helps out in the kitchen and also manages billing, something I have only noticed in family run places. This did lead to many mishaps which I will talk about later.
The prices are neither too high nor very cheap but I do not mind as both prawns and pomfret were extremely fresh. I mean, that’s what we want from a sea food restaurant, isn’t it?
The food again was a hit and miss.
We ordered Signature Prawns Thali(that includes a choice of Pomfret/Surmai curry, solkadi, chapati/rice bhakri, sukha, rice, prawns masala) with an extra rice bhakri.
Now to the MOST DISAPPOINTING PART, the place had lots of houseflies, AND, the floor was a mess. I do not understand how a restaurant in a good locality and situated in a mall like setting has so many flies. And, there were only 2 tables occupied at the same time then how come the staff is so disinterested in keeping the floors clean?
Although there is a lot of history and good reviews on this place, I shared my honest and unfiltered experience.
If you want to try fresh sea food and do not mind the ambiance of a restaurant in and around Shivaji Park, then do try...

Tucked away in a cozy spot, the newly opened Fish Curry Rice in a Kohinoor Square is a delightful haven for seafood lovers and anyone craving authentic Goan cuisine. Despite its limited space, the ambiance is warm and inviting, perfectly suited for enjoying a memorable dining experience. The menu is a treasure trove of unique dishes. I had the pleasure of trying the stuffed pomfret with garlic masala, which was simply divine—each bite bursting with flavors that beautifully highlight the freshness of the fish. The stuffed bombil in mirchi thecha was another standout, delivering a perfect balance of spice and satisfaction. The chicken curry was equally impressive, rich and aromatic, paired perfectly with generous portions of fluffy rice. Trust me, one serving will leave you completely stuffed—“pet bharke” is an understatement! To kick off the meal, the welcome drink was a refreshing kokam ras and ginger juice mixture. This was my first time trying such a concoction, and I was pleasantly surprised by its invigorating taste—a perfect complement to the spicy dishes that followed. One aspect that could enhance the overall experience is the music selection. While the upbeat “Maria Pitache” and “Yaya Mayaya” songs certainly add a lively touch, I believe incorporating classics from legendary artists like Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosale would evoke a nostalgic vibe. The restaurant would also benefit from playing the soulful poems and gazals of Suresh Bhat—after all, this establishment is named in honor of his legacy. Such an addition could create a deeply enriching atmosphere that pays homage to Goan culture. In conclusion, Fish Curry Rice is a gem that guarantees an exquisite culinary journey through Goan flavors. The delightful dishes, combined with a few tweaks to the musical ambiance, could elevate this dining experience to an unforgettable one. I wholeheartedly recommend this spot to anyone looking to indulge in delicious Goan cuisine and discover something new....
Read moreFish curry rice, the most famous seafood restaurant brand of Pune is now in Mumbai, that too in Kohinoor Mall, Dadar.
I Always heard about Fish Curry Rice restaurant in Pune but never had a chance to visit it. So thought of visiting it as it is in Dadar. Sandesh Bhat and his family have brought amazing goan seafood dishes to us through fish curry rice.
Loved the simple ambience of it with comfortable seating. Honestly what I liked is they have not done any high-end interiors or not serving in expensive crockery, their food speaks for the brand.
As the name says they got a great variety of fish but even poultry they got good options. The simplicity of the food or plating is impressive. Fish frys are their signature dishes so does the thalis. You get kokum sharbat to start with. We tried many delicious and authentic dishes and each dish had its unique taste, to be honest. Loved the red chutney they give with it and so does the pickle. Sol Kadhi was homemade and excellent too.
Pomfret Stuff – Pomfret stuffed in garlic stuffing and pan seared it. Loved the flavor of garlic with Pomfret. The fish was super fresh which was the best part. (5/5)
Chounak Fry- Chounak is the fish they import from Goa. I tried this fish the first time. It was flavourful and something new to me. (5/5)
Bombil Thecha Fry – The Best dish I tried ever. Bombil was stuffed with green chili thecha(Maharashtrian preparation made with green chilies) and then fried crisp enough. Loved the balancing of spiciness. A must-order dish of them. (5/5)
Prawns Aluwadi – interesting innovation, aluwadi stuffed with prawns and then fried crispy. Loved the crispiness of it. (4/5)
Special Fish Thali – Thali Consist of one fish fry (I selected surmai fry), prawns masala(thick gravy), pomfret curry, kismur, chapati, rice and sol kadhi. The thali was huge and the best was that you can choose the options of fish you want. Prawns masala was really different and interesting. Do try their...
