I will save your time, money, and mental peace. Avoid this place. This is overhyped.
If you want the short answer - dirty place, pathetic icecream taste, rude owner, costly for the what's on offer.
For long answer, read on!
We friend ventured here yesterday.
Here are my observations,
Shop is dirty. I smelled some rotten dairy products. The outer facade has dustbins right in front which also stink. It looks like the owner doesn't cares. Gives a feel of a cheap beer shop.
The old man at the counter was rude. Despite purchasing three icecream sandwiches costing Rs.300, he is unable to give change on handling a Rs.500 note. He mentioned, change only available if you purchase above Rs.350. Now you may ask, why I did not pay digitally? Read the next point!
They don't accept digital payment. Yes, in today's age, they don't.
Very few flavors available on the menu. Hardly 4-5 and that too confirm from the rude old man as they don't take pains to erase those which are unavailable.
Coming to flavor, I got an orange while my friend got kesar pista. Ofcourse, we had to settle for these since the other popular flavors were unavailable. The taste, forgettable. Just watery and sugary. Not at all worth for the price. You can definitely find the cheaper and better options. Again, it's not about price. I am willing to pay more but give me quality product. Utterly disappointing.
The cost-cutting or lack of interest is clearly visible. The shop exteriors are dirty. The shop's sign is perched two - three shops away. There are hand ripped cardboard signs which mention of cash only, no photography(yes, you cannot) and of pickpockets. The icecream is handed with the packaging it comes which is just a thin paper alongwith thinnest paper tissue one can find.
So is there anything worth here? The short answer no.
Spare yourself this apathy. Better have icecream elsewhere. Even the packaged Kwality Walls icecream sandwich for Rs. 35/- is better than this. The owners arrogance is visible clearly. More influences should call it out.
I will not even recommend this even if you wish to tick this off your bucket list. Better strike it off without visiting. Save your money, taste...
Read moreI visited K Rustom & Co. recently expecting their usual premium ice cream experience—but instead, I left thoroughly disappointed. Here’s why:
Quality Has Plummeted While Prices Climbed Over the past few months, I’ve noticed their ice cream has become noticeably less creamy and flavorful, yet they’ve quietly increased their prices. What used to be a rich, indulgent treat now tastes watered down and overly sweet, lacking the depth and texture I once enjoyed. Paying more for less is never acceptable, and K Rustom & Co. seems to have lost sight of what made them stand out in the first place.
Reduced Quantity for the Same (or Higher) Cost Not only did the ice cream itself feel inferior, but the serving sizes have shrunk as well. I ordered my usual cup, only to find it barely half full compared to a few months ago. It’s clear they are cutting corners—charging customers a premium yet delivering smaller portions. For the price I paid, I expected at least the same generous scoop I was used to. Instead, I felt cheated.
Unacceptable Hygiene Standards The final straw was discovering not one, but two long hairs tangled in my ice cream cup. Even if the flavor and quantity had met expectations, this lapse in basic hygiene is inexcusable. It suggests careless handling and disregard for cleanliness in their preparation area. Finding hair in food is not only extremely off-putting but also raises serious concerns about overall food safety and the training (or lack thereof) of their staff.
Overall Experience and Recommendation K Rustom & Co. used to be my go-to for a comforting, high-quality dessert. Now, it feels like they’re coasting on their brand name while giving customers far less value. Between the increased prices, diminished quality and quantity, and unacceptable hygiene lapses, I cannot in good conscience recommend this shop. For the same price—or less—you can find far better-tasting, more hygienic ice cream elsewhere.
If you care about both your palate and your health, I suggest looking elsewhere until K Rustom & Co. addresses these issues. A business that neglects quality control and customer experience doesn’t deserve your...

K. Rustom & Co. is a legendary ice cream parlor located near Churchgate, Mumbai, established in the 1950s. It's famous for its iconic ice cream sandwiches—a slab of flavorful ice cream pressed between two thin, crispy wafers. The experience is both nostalgic and unique, especially for locals and tourists looking for an old-school treat.
No-frills, heritage-style shop with a vintage Parsi vibe. Located near the beach, often bustling with people. No seating—this is a grab-and-go place, true to its original style.
Dense and creamy, more old-fashioned and less aerated than modern brands. Rich, natural flavors without being overly sweet. No artificial aftertaste.
Popular Flavors:
Almond Crunch – nutty, rich, and satisfying. Rum & Raisin – boozy undertones with chewy raisins. Walnut Crunch – for those who like textures. Kesar Pista – fragrant, subtle, and very Indian. Tooti-Frooti & Pineapple – retro, colorful, and kid-friendly.
Signature wafer sandwich format—both charming and practical. The wafers are crisp and give a perfect crunch to contrast the soft ice cream. Ice cream doesn't melt too quickly, likely due to the denser consistency.
Very reasonably priced , typically ranging from ₹80–₹150 depending on the flavor.
Nostalgic experience. Wide range of traditional and unique flavors. Great value for money. Iconic Mumbai food experience.
No modern amenities or seating. Cash preferred only card payments not be accepted.
K. Rustom isn’t just an ice cream shop; it’s a slice of Mumbai history. If you're looking for an authentic, nostalgic dessert that breaks away from the usual cones and cups, their ice cream sandwiches...
