I've been going to this place since I was a kid. Butter Chicken, Hot & Sour Chicken Soup and Naan: my routine order every alternate saturday of the month! They were good old days when Embassy served softies and Volga and Host were like Manchester Derby! Honestly I loved Volga more but dad was a Host fan. I aged like fine wine? LOL I dint! But dad's tastes were always better than mine and it took me a while to openly admit the fact. Fish Fingers, to be precise gave me enough reason to make me loyal to Host.
Well, I gave up non vegetarian food a few years later but Host never failed to amaze me. From sizzlers to hakka noodles and vegetables in garlic sauce, from Tooty Fruity to Hawain Delight and from Cutlets to Samosas: everything was mind blowingly awesome. The frequency of my visits reduced as I grew up amidst OTBs and Boombox(s) but the flavour, the consistency and yes even the STAFF at Host did not change! The ambience ( with huge balloon like lights hanging from the ceiling) did not change. The menu, did not change.
Old is gold they say! If you dont believe me, visit the place during late afternoons and if you dont find a bunch of surd uncles sitting on the extreme right table, feel free to walk out. I've been seeing those shopkeeper uncles age like fine wine ( yeah they did) and enjoy their daily coffee at Host, without fail.
Give it a shot and if you're confused on what to eat, ask them whats fresh that specific day and it'll...

Read moreI am still trying to understand the USP of this place. It looked regal from outside so we decided to check it out. The waiters and the management were nonchalant at best. The menu had almost nothing special to offer, and after sitting inside The Host for 5 minutes, time started moving slowly for me.
We ordered fresh lime soda and fruit salad among other things. The fresh lime soda was so bad that I think it takes a special skill to make it so rotten. The freshness, the lime, and the soda were equally pathetic. The fruit salad was just a tin of canned fruits emptied into a bowl, and the sugar content of it is enough to induce coma in the eater. When asked why they don't have fresh fruits, the manager responded with "we don't have fresh fruits".
The dal makhani and dum aloo were good, though I think it's because our expectations were abysmal after tasting the fresh lime soda, and these two fared decently. Go there if you have a funny bone and can laugh at the oddity of this place in the...
