Madhura Pure Veg, located on the bustling J.M. Road in Pune, is a delightful destination for anyone craving authentic Maharashtrian cuisine. The restaurant offers a rich variety of traditional dishes that feel like they’ve come straight from a home kitchen, cooked with love and regional flair. It’s a great spot to experience the depth and diversity of Maharashtrian food culture, especially through their thali offerings.
One of the major highlights here is the Ole Kaju Usal, a seasonal specialty that manages to strike a perfect balance between rich flavors and comfort. The kaju is tender, cooked just right, and blends beautifully with the masala base. Another must-try is their Kothimbir Wadi, which is crispy on the outside and soft inside, showcasing the earthy goodness of fresh coriander. When paired with their classic Amati and steamed rice, the meal transforms into a truly satisfying experience. The amati bhat combo, in particular, stands out and could easily be called their signature comfort food – spicy, tangy, and absolutely satisfying.
The thali includes a range of items that rotate depending on the day, ensuring variety and freshness. The portion size is generous and the pricing is fair for the quality and authenticity you get. The atmosphere is homely and clean, making it suitable for families as well as solo diners.
However, one clear downside is the service. While the staff is polite and ready to help, the overall service is very slow. Whether it’s placing the order, getting additional servings, or receiving the final bill, everything seems to take longer than expected. This can be a bit frustrating, especially during peak hours when the place is busy.
Also, one dish that falls short is the khar wang. The taste and texture just don’t meet the expectations set by the rest of the meal. It feels off in both flavor and presentation, and it’s something you’d be better off skipping.
Overall, Madhura Pure Veg delivers an excellent Maharashtrian thali experience that brings traditional flavors to your plate with authenticity and warmth. With faster service, it could easily become one of the top vegetarian spots...
Read moreA Confluence of Maharashtrian cuisine with evocative flavors!! Gavran Thali is a must!!
After more than a year I visited my personal fav outlet Mathura Pure Veg in JM Road, Pune. I simply love its authentic Maharashtrian Gavran Thali, which is a confluence of raw and cooked food items with evocative flavors. Maa ke haath ka khana yaad aa jata hai. Mathura Pure Veg is operating since 1984 and has hosted many celebrities from both Bollywood and Marathi industry alike. It is famous for its innovative healthy menu that keeps its Maharashtrian substance intact. It has simple seating which reminds me of olden golden days. There are tons of food options to select from, be it snacks, veggies, or thali combinations. Most of the time there is waiting, nonetheless the wait is worth it. We were served cool Masala Buttermilk that was most welcome. We were served thali soon thereafter and we dived right into it. Every food item is placed on the thali as per Maharashtrian ritual; meaning as per diner’s hand. Generally, the veggies or curry are served on right hand side of thali, rice or bhakri in the centre of thali, curd or lentils on left hand side of thali. Lastly, chutney or any extras are served separately along with water or any other beverage on left hand side of thali. We finished the thali in no time and left the restaurant absolutely delighted. If you are a lover of traditional Maharashtrian cuisine or want to just go out and have something truly healthy and nutritious then this is the place for you. Vlog...
Read moreI had visited Mathura restaurant during Lunch time with one of my friend. We wanted to taste food from authentic Maharashtrian cuisine. For a long time, this restaurant was on my wish list. The restaurant is on JM Road, which is one of the busiest road in Pune! Car parking you have to manage by your own. The restaurant has an OK ambiance with two seating sections!
We had started with Kothimbir Wadi, Alu Wadi & Masala Tak. Kothimbir Wadi was crunchy & delicious. Alu Wadi was a bit on the sweeter side although tasty! I was disappointed with Masala Tak, it was first of all green colour, I didn’t believe that it was Masala Tak, did confirm with them. Masala Tak was actually full of Mint & the mint flavour was quite prominent. I just didn't like the taste.
In the main course we had ordered Mix Veg Kolhapuri, Jwari Bhakari & this time we clearly asked them to serve Plain Tak (White). Mix Veg Kolhapuri was tangy but yummy! Jwari Bhakari was really good, not thick & quite soft. We enjoyed Bhakari, Veg Kolhapuri along with the tangy thecha (pickle served as a side dish). The Plain Tak was really good & quite refreshing.
In dessert we had gone for Shir Khand which was OK in taste.
Overall satisfied with the meal. Their service was also good. Their staff did inform us that we had ordered too much food, it will be more than enough for two people. I hardly see such gestures from other restaurants! Cost wise, its reasonable! I would definitely visit again &...
