Read moreThis is hands down THE WORST restaurant I’ve ever visited. I am forced to give this one star because I can’t give rating in minus. I had wanted to book this place for dinner for my special day and tried to make a reservation. Firstly its so hard to contact them that I almost gave up. They neither responded to my mails nor to the numerous calls I made. When I finally got through I was rudely told to come at the restaurant and wait. IF YOU DON’T WANT CUSTOMERS TO MAKE PRIOR RESERVATION THEN STATE IT CLEARLY. After waiting for about 45 minutes we were assigned our seats and the point to note here was that the foreigners who came before us were promptly seated whereas we were made to wait despite being on time. The view was amazing and it was a candlelight dinner. The problem was our candle almost got out and we were just waiting for someone to come and put a new one. NOBODY offered us water. And we waited 20 minutes for someone to take our order. We ordered the Mezze Platter and the mix veg platter (we made some changes in this platter). The order took 50 minutes to arrive!!!! 50 minutes!!! And the Mezze platter had THE WORST hummus ever. The food was oh so average! And the mix veg platter was a huge disaster! First they gave us the platter without modifications that we had requested then they took another 20 minutes or so to deliver that to us. By that time we had completely lost our calm. The place is SO UNDERSTAFFED. We told them to cancel the order we had JUST PLACED for our main course and VOILA! were told that it’s ready already. Seriously????? In nano seconds!??!?! And that they couldn’t cancel it. We were forced to get the daal we ordered as main course along with the starters. And we had also ordered soup and such fancy and expensive place showcased the worst service by serving the soup bowls not on the tray but on their hands and the bowls were stained!! Then they gave us the wrong bill! And as if the night couldn’t get worse when we reached our hotel back and tasted the food it was very very bad! The kebabs in the veg platter were extremely salty and the daal that the place boasted of was absolutely horrible! Except for the location there’s nothing that we liked. But when in Udaipur there’s no such thing as bad view. Ambrai is highly Overrated and I would never suggest anyone to go there....
Read moreI had a very unpleasant experience at Ambrai Restaurant, Udaipur, despite the charming ambience and stunning lake view.
While the setting is undeniably beautiful, the service and hospitality were shockingly poor, leaving a lasting negative impression.
The food quality was very average, and the service was a complete disappointment. It felt as though the staff were doing us a favor by bringing food or even listening to our needs. The level of professionalism and respect towards guests was abysmal, with hospitality scoring a zero.
A major concern is their policy regarding lake-view tables, which are apparently reserved only for those willing to meet a minimum order of ₹2,000 per person. This policy feels discriminatory and inconsistent, raising doubts about whether it is universally applicable or selectively enforced.
The service was chaotic and inattentive, with guests across tables waving their hands and calling out "excuse me" to get the attention of the staff. Not surprisingly, service charges are not included in the bill—rightly so, as the service doesn't merit it.
Another frustrating aspect was the need to repeatedly remind the staff about basic requests that were made long ago and were still unmet, such as a baby chair or butter sachets. It seemed as though simple guest needs were overlooked or forgotten entirely.
Unprofessionalism was blatantly evident in staff behavior. Here are two instances that stood out:
A waiter casually addressing another, saying, "Abe sun, wahan ye de ke aa"—right in front of guests.
A waiter bringing a senior manager to address an issue at a table where a foreign guest was seated, and shockingly referring to him as "us takle ke pass" (to the bald guy).
These incidents showcased a complete lack of respect and professionalism, making it clear that any courtesy shown by the staff is superficial and insincere. It seems the restaurant believes its beautiful location and ambience can compensate for their shortcomings in service and guest treatment. Unfortunately, this approach reflects poorly on what should be a hallmark of the hospitality industry.
I cannot recommend Ambrai Restaurant, and I hope they take steps to prioritize guest experience and improve their...
