I am going to give this place 6 months to get it’s act together and go back, because there is hope and I hope they will grow to what they can!

When a large restuarant with multiple spaces is much talked about in the media and you pass it a few times every day and it’s a short walk from your home you go check it out. And we did. Let us begin with the food…it was good, but there is hope that it might be excellent. We tried the Caesar’s Salad with Chicken, the Moroccan Chicken Soup and a Toasted Chicken Sandwich (which never came!). Great food comes from top class ingredients, pain in the arse attention to detail, imagination and something that has the aromas, flavours, tastes, textures and stories to bind together into a dish! It was their fourth day and I suspect they have not had the time to work out the pain in the arse obsession, attention to detail that separates the good from the oh my God! I am hoping they will get there. Given the location, the investment and the hype I had expected it to be expensive and it was…but only in the sense of value for money. I hope they will get there.

Which brings me to the service. Same complaints, same hopes. But to be fair some of the waiters who obviously had the training and experience tried to make a difference. But overall service management will need to grow to help this place bask in its possible glory. When you have a large space, a large menu and a expectant crowd of diners what will save you is a good traffic manager who allocated tasks, schedules movement and oversees quality and timeliness…and adherence to detail.

Lastly, the ambience. The outside space behind under a tree is to kill for if Chennai weather cooperates. The front open area is a challenge and I hope they will crack it. The air conditioned inside space was sparse and minimal…and noisy as hell…contributed mostly by us enthusiastic diners! Why architects and interior designers do not worry about acoustics in enclosed spaces meant to hold crowds is a mystery.

Will I go back? YES, but after a few months to let the management and staff settle in and crack it. Do I have hope? YES, and I hope they will do what everyone in the service business should do…listen! Can it be a place that I will go back to again and again? I sincerely hope so. We as a nation don’t take to criticism and feedback well, unless it is positive, but I hope the folks at Bask will because I want to go back and enjoy it as...

Located in the heart of Chennai, Bask by Coffee Since 1999 stands tall as the city's largest cafe, offering a perfect blend of ambiance, warmth & a diverse menu that caters to every palate. During our recent visit, we had the pleasure of experiencing some of their signature delights, including the indulgent Hot Chocolate, the creamy Veg Alfredo Pasta & the flavorful Paneer Bao.

Hot Chocolate: (5/5)

Bask by Coffee Since 1999's signature Hot Chocolate is a liquid masterpiece that transcends the boundaries of a conventional hot beverage. Served in a charming mug, the velvety smoothness of the chocolate was a comforting embrace to the senses. It wasn't just a drink; it was an experience. Rich, decadent & perfectly balanced, the Hot Chocolate at Bask is a must-try for any chocolate enthusiast. T'was so sick!!!!

Veg Alfredo Pasta: (5/5)

The Veg Alfredo Pasta at Bask is a testament to the chef's skill in marrying flavors and textures. The penne pasta was perfectly cooked to al dente & the Alfredo sauce was a luscious blend of cream and Parmesan, coating each strand with a luxurious richness. The inclusion of fresh vegetables added a delightful crunch and a burst of color. This dish stands out as a comforting classic with a touch of sophistication.

Paneer Bao: (5/5)

The Paneer Bao at Bask is a delightful fusion of Asian and Indian flavors. The pillowy soft bao buns encased a generous portion of succulent paneer, dressed in a savory and slightly spicy sauce. The play of textures, from the tender paneer to the fluffy bao, created a symphony of tastes in every bite. The dish was served with precision, highlighting Bask's commitment to both taste and presentation.

Ambiance and Service: (5/5)

The ambiance at Bask is a harmonious blend of contemporary design and cozy comfort. Whether you're seeking a quiet corner for introspection or a lively space for socializing, Bask caters to all moods. The staff is attentive and friendly, adding to the overall positive dining experience.

Overall, Bask by Coffee Since 1999 has successfully carved a niche for itself in Chennai's culinary scene. From the moment you step in, you are greeted with the aroma of freshly brewed coffee and the promise of a delightful gastronomic adventure. Each dish reflects the commitment to quality and innovation, making Bask a must-visit destination for food...

Food was ok but completelu appalled by thr service provided there. We asked them if we could take a picture, they said no and that they were busy There was constany murmuring in the background by the staff there, had a very disgusting experience there Will never visit again

We came there on 22nd june under the name Deepa/Rithu for a friend’s birthday.. We did not come there and eat and spend tome free of cost. We chose bask because we heard so much about bask. We dont remember the name of the staff who attended us.. but these screenshots are testimonial to what they did .. they stared and judged us repeatedly, they treated us like we were scum from the lower channels of the society.. we were dressed appropriately and we come from a good background and didnt even think people there could do this to us Sending this as a private text and not publicly because saving you the trouble.

1.We requested the waitress to bring a book (that my friends and i made for the birthday girl) along with the food, she came and dropped it on the table like its dirt The birthday girl was eating homemade rasgulla, that her friend gifted her and was hand made, the staff very very rudely stared at us and told us that we cannot eat, they couldve been better about it We asked for a lighter/matchbox - and they said they did not have one They didnt fill up/give proper water The water tasted like drainage 6.they didnt give cutlery 7.they did not serve us well And other complaints my friends have said as well From my friends who came:

They weren't warm at all Restaurants should always have staff who are warm and help us have a good experience there. They didn't do that 😭😭😭😭

they refused to take a group picture, one of the waiters said he was busy and didn’t have time for it. they refused to allow cake from outside and were reluctant to give a candle/match. in fact, we’d asked them earlier about the cake and they said it’s permitted

they never gave clear answers- they stared us down 😭

They had this grunt look on their face hanging like we were troubling them. They were clearly...

Bask was a good experience. I was there with my family at the advice of my elder son. The location is in Poes Garden which is where the rich and the famous hobnobs. The most famous person to live in Poes Garden are Rajanikanth and Late Jayalalitha with a host of other famous personalities. So the location is spot on. The place is large with an open space for Tobacco chuggers. The outside is pretty attractive but the interior was a little disappointing. I expected a very luxurious interior but it is rather simple place. It is large, clean, well lit . If the owner had given a little more attention to the details on luxury it could have been the best stand-alone restaurant in Chennai. Saying this I must tell you that the place is not bad either. We ordered a Hummus Bowl for your's truly, my wife ordered the Grilled Chicken Pesto Sandwich and my son ordered the Alfredo Pasta in white sauce. The Hummus Bowl was the most healthiest dish among these three. It was filling, tasty and the choice breads and vegetables made it a wholesome meal for a real hungry person. The Pesto Grilled Chicken Sandwich was outstanding with loads of flavour. The Alfredo Pasta was all cheese, cream and chicken. It was tasty for sure but watch your cholesterol after this. The service was ok. They were busy and I guess that could be the reason they don't smile but they were doing what they are there for. The food did not take too long. The price is a little on the higher side but lower than the average 5 star hotel but they have a great kitchen staff who make BASK a good place to try out some sumptuous food. The choice of Cuisine is amazing. It has the world in their plate. Surely a place one must try !!!!
