Saravanan Bhavan, once celebrated for its exquisite South Indian cuisine and impeccable service, now evokes a sense of nostalgia as it falls short of its former glory. The restaurant's heyday showcased vibrant flavors and culinary expertise, making it a favored destination for food enthusiasts like me.
However, during my recent visit, the decline in quality was palpable. The once-distinctive tastes now seemed muted, and the dishes lacked the finesse that defined Saravanan Bhavan's reputation. This disappointment was compounded by a noticeable slowdown in service. Despite a relatively empty restaurant, our order took an agonizingly long time to reach our table. The frustration peaked when another couple expressed their displeasure loudly, having waited extensively for a simple dish like idli.
This public display of dissatisfaction underscored a systemic issue. The restaurant, once known for its efficiency and friendliness, now struggled with basic service standards. The ambiance that once resonated with satisfied diners now echoed with discontent.
In conclusion, Saravanan Bhavan's current state is a departure from its former excellence. While I hope this was an isolated incident, the decline in both food quality and service has undoubtedly affected the restaurant's once-stellar reputation. It is my sincere wish that Saravanan Bhavan can rediscover its culinary prowess and regain the favor of its...
Read moreHello all, Hotel Saravana Bhavan or HSB WAS the most famous vegetarian restaurant of Chennai once upon a time in Chennai. In fact many part of the world. All Chennaians would love to eat tiffin items and many other dishes.Very sad to say that Unfortunately those days are gone now. Below are few points that must be addressed to keep very few branches live in Chennai. Service - Very bad service from staffs and poor in responding to the customers. Even the basics like tissue was not kept in many tables. Food quality and taste - Had four different dishes including mini tiffin. None of them tasted good as it was earlier or tastes with competitors. The food served on the plate was in a bad shape. Cleanliness - This is another key area that needs to be addressed. Only one wash basin was working and the area was very ugly. Hand wash kept was very bad quality. Spoons given for having food was not at all cleaned properly. Water glasses were also not upto the mark. Price/Cost - Final one. I am still wondering why they are charging very high cost and not at all worthy to spend that money there. I realized that there is no other big restaurants nearby who serves tiffin in the morning with AC n Car park. This may be a reason for all the negatives. Hope we get to see our old Hotel Saravana...
Read moreWell...I have been visiting this particular branch of Saravana Bhavan since 1997. I was a regular until a decade ago. The place used to be teeming with people and energy. Now, I occasionally visit this place. I like the Masala milk served here. There is a drastic change in approach and culture here. The soap dispenser does not have soap. The tissue paper stand near the wash basin is empty. Plates and glasses of customers who have finished eating and left the restaurant are unattended by the cleaning staff. The managerial staff are seen gossiping with other staff. The cleaning staff are taking the cue from their superiors. The granite slabs (in the area behind the cash counter) are wiped in such a way that you can see the strokes; evidence that the cleaning cloth isn’t clean. Used water glasses and fresh glasses are close to each other. And the Masala Milk didn’t look like and taste like usual. What needs to happen for this place to be injected with its soul? I am being liberal with the 3 star due to my emotional attachment...
