The reason for the recent visit was the revamp in the menu.. To deal with current time and reduce human contact as much as possible they have launched set menus and one pot meals..
The Set menus which are totally 9 in number with 3 veg and 6 non veg starting 575rs all the way to 1475rs have a complete meal incorporated in them.. With option to choose a drink and dessert of choice the various menus have different starters and main course.. And all finish off with a suleimani chai..
Even with less contact the service managed to impress us.. Polite and friendly behavior of the servers was really good and also knowledge they had of the menu was appreciable..
We did try the various menus among us and given below are some of the must try items among them..
Chicken Cutlet : One of the best cutlets.. Soft and moist thanks to the well minced and mixed meat and perfectly fried.. The subtle aroma of the spices was just too good to experience..
Prawn Kizhi : Prawn and coconut shavings cooked with kodumpuli which was later on wrapped in banana leaf and steamed.. The small pouch looks appetizing.. Overall good taste and a must try..
Iraichi Fry : One of the best beef dishes you can have.. The tenderloin cubes roasted to perfection.. The spicy and tangy taste was just too good.. Must Must try..
Karimeen : Had both polichathu and fry varieties.. The fish cooking was just perfect and the marinade too was spot on.. Yummy and lip smackingly good.. The marinade on the fry was cooked better..
Poornachandran Njandu Fry : Haven't had such a soft and well cooked crab.. Crispy fried soft shell crab.. Some thing i will definitely recommend..
Ramassery idli Varuthacha Chicken Curry : Soft and well made idlies served with chicken curry.. The Chicken Curry with slight fried aroma complemented the idli very much..
Thattum Muttum : Must try.. Beef tenderloin cooked with tapioca.. Slightly spicy and tangy.. But a mixture well cooked and a definite try..
Idiyappam Prawn Thengapaal Curry : One of the best idiappams i have had served with a slightly sweeter coconut based prawn gravy.. Together they worked wonders.. The Slight shavings of coconut on the idiyappam were an added advantage..
Pidi Kozhi Curry : Small pidis in the coconut milk served with a chicken gravy.. Mixed together and had.. The sweetness of the coconut milk along with the spicy curry just went along well..
Appam Mutton Stew : Appam Served with one of the best mutton Stew.. The meat was so delicate and well cooked with the veggies.. The taste was just top notch..
Prawn Puttu Biryani : A yummy prawn based semi gravy layered inside a rice caked mixed with coconut shavings.. A perfect combo IMO..
Kappa Vevichathu Kudampuliyitta Fish Curry : Man i just cant explain how good this was.. One of the best fish gravies i have ever had.. The Kappa/ Tapioca mashed and cooked with coconut was just too good to have with the fish gravy..
Drinks : Tried the Nannari and Kandhari.. the Nannari was usual stuff but well made with apt amount of the syrup.. The Kandhari touted as the spicy drink was manageable.. Just need to be careful as to not gulp it at once..
Desserts : Tried the Cloud Pudding, Kandhari Ice Cream, Pazham Nanachatu, Palada Payasam and Payaru Payasam.. All were really good but the cloud puding and palada payasam topped the list..
Kappa Chakka Kandhari did actually serve many best variants of food in chennai.. The Quality of the ingredients and the taste are unmatchable for sure.. Top service and decent ambiance are added advantages.. And with all these in mind the pricing which definitely is on the higher side is actually justified for some special occasions or if you are craving from some top notch...

Chicken chatti choru - Soft matta rice which went good with their spicy chicken gravy; though it had more bones, the meat was tender & aromatic, had a strong curry leaves flavour to it, GOOD Pazham pori kadala curry - Hot & soft sweet banana fritters (deep fried) with chickpea curry; the sweet-spicy combination was something to savour about; saturated from the outer layer, this one does the trick
Naadan memories: The ones which stood out were the Kappa vada - Well fried tapioca patties, perfect for the start; Koorka Ularthiyathu - Loved this potato roast with coconut chunks, spicy with crunchiness along every bite Chembu roast - THE BEST colocasia roast with a burst of flavours as we devour it, so masalicious yet sweet from the filling Pineapple nendram masala, Idiyappam ulli theeyal, Puttu Kadala curry - All the main course were great (especially the spicy curry) but the starters were the star of the day
Monsoon magic: Mushroom pothi, Kadala roast, Vazhapoo cutlet, all tasted like those village style with traditional spices, fragrant; fresh and hot from the start Chena fry - Loved the yam fry with roasted flavour from the curry leaves Vattayappam Vendakkai Mappas - Something unique about this is its sweet gravy taste from the coconut along with the kicky okra dominating all around; never have I ever tried it before and stood tall among all other gravies The vattayappam too was slightly sweet but with the gravy, the combination was top-notch Ramassery idly with sambar & Chutney powder - Fluffy plain idly with blatant podi
Have tried all their unique beverage & desserts: Queen of Arabia & Passion fruit juice - Typical which goes well with every sip along our meal Guava temptation - Smooth guava with green chilli to act as a catalyst Cloud pudding - Native tender coconut pudding which plays very well to our tune Kandaari ice-cream - Spicy chilli ice-cream with 2 in 1 taste Kaapichan - Yet another jiggly coffee pudding, SO GOOD Payiru payasam - Traditional green gram sweet porridge, Healthy!!
One of those best places with soothing ambience, pleasing service and dance on the tongue taste. Valet parking available so wouldn't be an issue with it. Though they have got good seating space, table booking is recommended since the place gets beefed up real quick. The waiting time was very minimal with courteous service and suggestions about dishes. Their price is tricky since they're on a higher side but when it comes to their food, it does add...
Read moreThis place is a restaurant with a lot of clientele. Nice friendly staffs and speedy service. These guys have opened the with an idea of changing the Kerala cuisine service and give the customer an genuine experience and take them to another level. The vision and all are pretty ambitious and lofty. Have they taken the experience to another level .... Read on....
I have been to this restaurant quite a few times. I prefer to give a place a generous compliment only after a couple of visits. They opened their door first in Chennai in 2018 and since then they are one of the most popular restaurant in Chennai. Thier success here pushed them to venture to their second success in Bangalore.
The place is not cheap. It will cost between 1300 to 1500 per person on the order. They have designed the menu and this can be an irritant sometimes because there are times I have seen by favourites in 2 or 3 different set menus and wanted it badly. This restaurant is focused for the top value clients who bring in their friends or clients and they seem to come here in droves. Obviously something is clicking here.
My suggestions would be Fish fry, Prawns and fish Curry. The sea food seem to stand out for me. The poultry and red meat seem to take a back seat in this restaurant. They have a set menu which can work well but not always. Among the Chicken dish I liked the Chicken Malli Peralan. My favourite set menu is the Malabar Musing. It gives you a good idea of Malabar Cuisine of Kerala but does not do justice to the range and variety of this cuisine . May be this is why they name this as Malabar Musing.
What really disappointed me was the absence of Kerala Parota and Beef menu. That was disappointing because Parota is the essence of Kerala food and Beef was not in the menu even after a good search.
The service is excellent. The staff is well trained. The senior staffs and management come around regularly one sure smooth service and sort out small issues. The ambience is not really Kerala or Malayali. That was missing. The speed of the food from Order to the table was decent.
If you say does the place do justice to Kerala cuisine I would say "It is good outsiders but true blue foodies might feel incomplete" . The feel of Kerala is there there but the soul is missing.
Good effort...
