Located on the terrace of the Raintree, this restaurant allows you to view the entirety of Chennai while also enjoying the lovely breeze you can't otherwise enjoy on land (the summers have been especially hot this year).
You can enjoy yourself, with a warm, dim-lit light on your table and a wooden deck under you. Romantic indeed. However, I wish the deck was maintained better since my father almost slipped due to a small slump.
As for the food, I must admit that I was quite impressed. It is a little pricey but the amount of malai in their kulfi ensures that I don't seriously mind it.
Their service stands out spectacularly in my view. Instead of stating every detail, let me express this through the discourse I had with the waiter on dessert. It's a family culture-yes, I imposed it- that we complete our meals outside with a dessert. As it turns out, with no surprise, I'm the only one who orders and can eat desserts. My mom only enjoys tasting it. I told the waiter that I would like a kulfi. He asked me if I would prefer three. I glanced at my mom and confirmed that I would only like one. He looked at me and with a smile on his face said, "Would you like it as a 1/2 in two cups?" I must admit, I couldn't control myself and broke into laughter. He had made quite an impression: an unforgettable one! Anyway, I believe that, if you're up to it ("it" refers to the price), which you already might be considering that you've gotten this far in my review, Up North would prove an interesting...
Read moreHands down the worst meal experience I have had in a very long time. I was so sad and disappointed to see our beloved Up North restaurant reduced to such poor quality in food and service. The interiors are outstanding, very beautiful atmosphere, but the experience of this restaurant starts and ends there. We were a party of 4 for dinner tonight. They got almost all our orders wrong or poorly cooked or both. We returned our first starter - which arrived some 30 mins after we ordered it,and after reminding the staff - the galouti kebab was poorly made, tasted slightly stale, and was served cold. The next starter arrived another 10 mins after that, and was slightly better, as it was well made and was lukewarm. After this we got a poor replacement of the first starter, as we complained about it. The third starter we ordered never showed up. The mains we ordered came over 1 hour into our dining, and after 2 reminder calls. Also no one refills your water glasses till you ask at least thrice. The main course we ordered did not come all at once, and the breads we ordered were not what we were served. We had ordered an amritsari kulcha and got something like a naan instead. By this time we were too hungry to argue. So we ate the dal.makhni and 'naan' , cancelled the rest of our order (which came after we had finished eating) and left. Such a sorry state of affairs for such an...
