Nice and cozy little place with great delicious food and a good selection cocktails.
Location The place is small with only 16 seats, and the interior design is modest with wooden furniture and concrete like wall including on wall with relief paintings. A nice place to go for a good eat (lunch to dinner) or just having some good drinks.
Food It’s kind of a modern interpretation of southeast Asian cuisine, with all it’s familiar flavors(curry, coconut, coriander, chili, etc) combined to new dishes. The menu consists of many different dishes at the first glance, but some of them are just variations of others, making the selection smaller than it seems, and a small menu is likely a sign of quality, as the focus on the high quality products and their own philosophy instead of trying to accommodate every customers taste. The majority of dishes sound very appetizing, so I ordered more than planned. I’ve chosen the chicken honey roasted and the chicken coconut balls as starters. And then went for the Tuna Sambal Matah as the main. Unfortunately the caramel pork, my preferred dish, was already sold out...might n es to come back. The starter were very good, the chicken balls were a little dry, which is common with minced chicken, but the sauce/soup had a very good flavor. I recommend the chicken balls shall be eaten as a soup, to a spoon of the sauce and the chicken balls making it a different. Chicken roasted was very good as well, and served on homemade rice crackers, so can even eat as kind of a big canapé or bruschetta. The main dish was amazing, the tuna was seared sashimi style, meaning just giving it a crust and keeping the core raw. I love that. The sambal matah was a little bit to light to make an impact on the dish. The vegetable tempura were super! I was very much surprised of that. It just a very thin and super crispy crust, and the veggies were still tasteful, just magnificent. Would love to a full bow of it far snacking next time.
Cocktails Are very descent with a good taste. Like other Balinese bars, they do have some specials, like a list of Arak cocktails (which is a local spirit) or a decent selection of tropical interpretations of classic cocktails (e.g. pineapple mojito) Decent selection good for extending the evening after dinner, but nothing to god for this place explicitly.
Overall the Twist is very nice place to eat and stay, I’ll definitely recommend that place. It might not the a good place for people who like the traditional Bali experience, but it’s still a magnificent restaurant, for sure way better than the western style restaurants in the...
Read moreOne of the most unexpectedly amazing lunches of my entire holiday. I got four main meals and some entrées with my girlfriend and some accompanying wines. The wine pairings were really good!! At such a good price! I had white wine with their Tuna & Coconut Cream, such a good match! The chilli in the dish made the wine easier and nicer to drink. The wine complimented the fish and spices perfectly as well. Then I had a Spicy Chicken & Coconut Cream, with a chilled, thin, red wine. It was absolutely perfect. Never had a chilli chicken pairing with red wine and it was the best thing ever. I’ll be sure to replicate this with some home cooking when I leave Bali. Then Ketut (best man I have ever met) paired the Caramel Pork & Twist Spicy Pork Ribs with their Rosé. Worked perfect. Two intense flavours coming together. The acidity in the wine cut through the fat in both meals. It added an additional dimension to the Pork. Anyway it’s all 5 stars from me and super glad I stopped here for lunch. Thank you Ketut for having us! The meals on their own were delcious and juicy and soft and spicy, they didn’t even need wines paired with them. But the fact that each wine pairing was up to Sommelier standard, I loved every second of this lunch and I’ll be back again....
Read moreMy daughter and her fiance, having been here a number of times, took me for a meal and asked me what I thought. Oh my goodness! The flavours were luah biasa (amazing), and the prices were so cheap! I had two starters that were ample for my hunger and taste sensation. WOW. The chicken honey roasted peanuts on rice crackers was the absolute best. Now, I'm a real foodie, with a real taste for Asian, Vietnamese, Thai, Malaysian food, etc. I also had the chicken and cashew nuts on the rice crackers, but the Chicken Honey roasted peanut was definitely the best! Both at $AUS2.50 per serve, it was a crazy cheap price for such taste flavours! My daughter and fiance had the curry, sate. My choice of wine is definitely the Hatten White, which is a very nice fruity Sav Blanc. The Two Islands Sav Blanc is a little dryer. Interestingly enough, please take the time to read the comments under each dish on the menu. The chef definitely has a great sense of humour. We ate here and did takeaway a number of times. Please give it a try. The rustic decor, the wonderful fragrances of the food, and the prices are definitely worth a...
