Lawless Burgerbar Menteng — Restaurant in Jakarta

This is a long, overdue review. We were in jakarta for a business trip and as usual, we had to try some good burgers.

Throughout the journey, we notice this franchise called Lawless Burgerbar at some of the malls. Luckily for us there was an outlet located like 7 mins walk from the hotel so we had to give it a try.

From the outside, it didn't look much, but when you entered, there's this short pathway that leads you to the bar with a mezzanine floor.

The place looked like those you see in the movies for those biker gangs. It even had a dragon head, which breathes out smoke once in a while!

Luckily for us, there wasn't a big crowd, so seating wise, we could choose where we wanted to sit.

We went up to the counter to make our order. I ordered "The Lemmy" with grilled cheese, and my partner got "The Great Southern Trendkill" with melted cheese. The sides we just got the judas fries and the drinks was a lychee soda.

We didn't have to wait long for the drinks to be ready and thereafter the food was up.

I must say it was lucky we ordered only 1 side cause the size of The Lemmy was quite big given there were 2 patties.

With that, I had the first bite for The Lemmy. The patties were juicy and flavourful. The egg in it was your standard fried egg. However, the buns fell flat for me as it was rather dry. It was accompanied by some fried garlic chips or something which was a nice touch.

Next up was the Trendkill. It was more manageable since it was just 1 fried chicken patty. The buns were similar to the Lemmy, but the chicken was good. However, I think we made the wrong choice in choosing the melted cheese as after a few bite, it got a bit too much.

Lastly, for the fries, there was nothing much to shout about. It was good old standard fries that went well with the burgers.

Overall, it was a good meal, and if we have another chance to try, we'll try the other burgers.

Total we spent near like 300k rupiah, so...

I give 4/5 for the burger. 1/5 for everything else. The burger is delicious and big. A restaurant quality no doubt. Alcohol is served here. But nothing else I could say about the positives. We were forced to share a place with strangers due to small capacity. The interior is ok. Probably good for die hard metalheads, and pretty funny references in the menus aswell. But the numbers on the menu are insane! You add around Rp. 40,000 more to make your meal a combo. For that you get a relatively small portion of deep fried frozen cheap fries and a small can of coke. We appreciate the fast service. But, they kick you out pretty fast aswell. 20 mins into enjoying the burger, the waiter came and tries to take our trays. There were visibly food on it and we are holding massive burgers. We also saw that one group was politely asked to leave due to a lot of customers (even though there weren't that much). This is no way of treating a customer, especially by purposely playing loud unsettling metal music (for most people atleast). This made our stay really unenjoyable. The WORST thing is the fact that the second floor is a smoking area, which are not separated by any barriers and have little ventilation. Smokes could get to the non smoking area. Luckily there weren't many smokers when we visited. Not saying people shouldn't come here (in fact I really do recommend the burgers), but be aware of the situations you're gonna face. . . Edit I found out there is a specific person telling about the dining time (which is 1 hour after food is delivered to the table). But we weren't told by anyone so it was quite shocking seeing them reminding people about the time. Still, this rule does not match the name of the restaurant "Burger Bar" (because people usually spend hours in a bar). I think it'll be better to change the concept to a...

Good and VERY BAD Two visits back to back. The good : The best Waitress: Devi= Awesomeness, Knowledgable and accommodating. Ordered: The “Lemmy” Burger . it’s the Bomblastic of burgers: 190 grams x 2(local beef 90/10), BBQ smoke brisket (tender, fatty, smoky and tangy saucy), beef Bacon(crispy, jerky taste), sunny side egg(runny egg) on a buttered bun(brioche texture) not toasted. Burger was amazing. It was one of the best in quality , texture , juiciness and presentation(see video). Everything meshed together like a happy family . Now the VERY BAD Next day Arrived at 21:25 hours(closing is 10:00pm). Young female cashier(not Miss Devi ) rushed our order and wanted us to take out our meal. We had to kindly refuse, so she asked the cook and we were allowed to stay . Mind you, the places was still packed with patrons. Cashier advised us that the only thing available were the burgers and soft drinks. They already turned off the frier and cleaned all the dishes . We ordered: 2 x Lemmy Burgers.

OMG !!!! What a disaster. Everything was overcooked from the beef patty, brisket and sunny side egg(see photo). One slice of limp bacon , no bbq sauce, no special sauce and no “cheese”(see photo). Soooo pissed and disappointed.

Message to the staff:

If you wanted to leave by 22:00 hours, you should have a “Closed” sign or business hours changed to 21:30 hours.

If you don’t want to provide consistency and quality and rather go home, then turn customers away by 9:00pm. Poor Poor management and a disappointing experience.
