Warung Babi Guling Sari Dewi Pak Dobiel Nusa Dua Bali August 2019
Nasi campur lengkap for 40 K IDR
When so many people who do not know each other recommends a place they insist one must visit and it actually turns out good, i guess one should sometimes heed the wisdom of the masses. What is there to say, most of the individual components are arguably the best one can find. However, the star of the show for me is the satay which is tender, succulent, and perfectly balances the sweet and the savoury while also having that slightly spicy undertone.
The skin is also in a league of its own for being crispy yet melts in your mouth without resistance. I guess one should really just burn the hell out of the skin and remove that underlayer of fat to achieve this effect. Well played, Pak Dobiel, well played. Even the white meat is also thoroughly infused with flavour without needing to be doused in a ton of gravy like how some others usually do it. Furthermore, they also added a crispy chicken-fried pieces of pork which adds to the flavour and texture profile (although personally I'm not usually into chicken-fried anything).
The portions are a bit small, but i guess it really makes up for its lack of volume by carrying so much flavour. Subsequently, the veggies are kinda just okay and i find the broth a bit lacking in complexity. Luckily the whole dish always has this slightly spicy undertone and they also added splashes of green chili sambal and some fried chili and pork bits.
All in all, i have to say that it is worth the price tag, the trek, and even the wait. Do try it out for yourself and let me know what you think of it.

Read moreThis is the first Balinese food we grabbed after arriving in Bali; we had heard of this warung since forever, and many of our friends recommended it. The place is not fancy; when we enter the site, we only see a few tables. We had to order and directly pay at the cashier before sitting. After payment, they said more were tables at the back, and we went there. They have a massive yard, with several buildings, each with tables set up. The food preparation is swift, and the portion is small, but when I taste it, I know I want more. Cause we’re staying at a resort, I am concerned that the food will be pricy, so I ordered two portions to take away for dinner. When I order it, the cashier asks; do I want paper wrapping with all of the rice, meats, and veggies mixed all together, or use a box where they divide it since I want it later for dinner, I ask for the box packaging, and to remind you all; you need to bring your bag, or you can buy a nonwoven bag there for IDR5000. The cashier already explained (but I'm not paying attention) that the boxed one has a bigger portion, no soup, and a lot pricey-er. For example, the one we got for dine-in is two portions (with 2 cups of soup), one bottle cost us around IDR80K, and when I paid for the takeaway for two boxes of babi guling, no soup, plus bag, it cost me around IDR120K. Was it worth it? It tastes lovely; I hope the portion is bigger, and next time, I will buy it with a paper wrapper, or bring my own container, or order it from Grab/gofood. Oh, one more thing: I met this elderly guy who looked very calm and friendly, filling up the spoons and forks at our table; he smiled very gently and nicely. I assume...
Read moreThis is one of my favorite place for nasi babi guling since long time. I remember couple years back when the place very crowd and messy to order the food. But now they improve a lot, really nice and appreciate it. You enter the place then take the queue on the right that direct you to the cashier. Order the food there, include take away or dine in. Then if you take away you can move to the left queue to wait for the food to be prepared. This queue will be together with the online food driver as well. If you dine in then after paying at cashier you need to find place to sit. You can chose the table inside, table front or table at backyard which is more bigger. But for me i sit at the resto next door that selling ayam betutu. Will need to order the drinks there. So i ordered my nasi babi guling in Dobiel and i ordered drinks plus ayam betutu for my kids there. The nasi babi guling is amazing tasty. Something that i will miss it when im not in Bali. Really love the dishes here even price wise is quite hight compare to others. Parking is challenging here but the parking guard is very experience on helping you...
