The Sand - Hotel Kumala Pantai — Restaurant in Kuta

Absolutely terrible from the start to the end. We dined here a couple days ago and everything was great so expecting the same this night for our Granny’s birthday however that was not the case.

When we arrived we stood waiting to be seated for over 10 minutes. Had to approach a waiter asking if there was any tables available which he said no and told us to wait at the bar until a table was free. That took over 20minutes until we were seated. Asked for our 2nd sets of drinks which took over 10 minutes. Which were only a bottle of beer and a water which takes less than a minute to prepare from the bar staff. We Saw our drinks sat at the bar from our so we mentioned it to a waiter who just ignored us completely and went off. Drinks finally arrived after mentioning the same situation to a different waiter.

Ordered the main courses which only took around 10minutes to arrive. However, my granny’s meal arrived an additional 10 minutes after mine arrived so I was halfway through my meal by the time she got hers. Clear communication issue between chefs. After our meal we ordered more sets of drinks which we had the exact same issue with as before which I previously mentioned above. Awful communication throughout the entire restaurant from the waiting staff to the chefs. Waiter spilled drinks all over the floor for another table too which they didn’t bother clean up or address to warn nearby customers of the wet floor which is massive health and safety risk for other staff or customers as someone could’ve got seriously hurt. Luckily no one slipped. Only upside of the night was the live music. Majority of the waiting staff did not seem to care about our complaints. Tried addressing the issues throughout the night to the manager at the end but they weren’t available so a waiter had to manage our complaints instead. Credit to him as we were able to negotiate some items being taken off the bill however, we still don’t think it compensated us for how poor our night was. Overall it ended up taking nearly 3 hours for a one course meal and a few drinks. Despite the restaurant having nice food and enjoyable music it was difficult to enjoy. From having experience in hospitality myself I was appalled by how poor the service from the waiting staff was tonight and we most likely will not...

I rarely write negative reviews...but this wait staff was miserable and gives Balinese working in the tourist and service industry a very bad name. The one star is because the waiter who seated us and served us was truly one of the rudest (honestly, for no reason...we are just 2 well traveled people who came for a simple dinner) waiters I've ever encountered. He huffed and puffed, didn't smile, appeared irritated at dealing with foreigners, rushed us through our meal hovering and asking if we were done. Then pushed us to pay (closing soon, so we understood closing out his tables...but no need to ask rudely). We ate fast and felt stressed by his demeanor so started to leave a smaller than normal tip (better than no tip at all)...and he stood right next to my husband in a bullying posture and exhaled disgustedly twice flipping the bills over looking at it a few times mentioning it was only equal to like $2 USD. Finally, I said we could give him a bit more and he snatched it out of my husband's hand and quickly took off into the main area of the restaurant not to be seen again. I should have talked to management in the moment, but was so shocked I didn't think to do it. 80% of the other wait staff seemed despondent and miserable too. The burger was decent, but nothing special and we were not offered any condiments...no ketchup, no mustard, etc). I will never eat here again and do not recommend...

Perfect! It is not easy for me to be able to enjoy Italian cuisine in Indonesia since usually authentic Italian food is never the case. Most of the times, it's always some fusioned Italian food that most of the restaurant in Indonesia is serving.

It's different with this restaurant. Their menu is not only consist of Italian cuisine, but their Italian food is really really good. I said it again, it's really good.

I love how they stick with the original recipe without any extra stuffs being put on the plate. I ordered Spaghetti Scoglio with Marinara Sauce. It was fantastic. The Tomato passata is balanced. You can taste its freshness. The pasta is al dente to perfection. My teeth confirmed it.

Beside the Scoglio Pasta, my family also ordered Aglio Oglio which tasted very nice. Even the portion was perfect.

The Pizze was also nice. We ordered Margherita and it was very good. You can actually taste the balance Tomato Passata, Mozzarella Cheese and the Basil.

Another positive point for me was the service. The staffs performed their duty nicely. But I gotta give extra credit to the Chef and the kitchen staffs. Great job.
