Zanzibar Restaurant — Restaurant in Kuta

In a nutshell very happy with the meal, service and ambience.

After my last review of the Zanzibar Restaurant I received an email apology and an invitation to return.

We did so in July 2023.

We started with spring rolls and they were extremely flavoursome with a very interesting and unusually flavoured sauce.

The ambience and service were again excellent. The road at the front of the restaurant is crowded with motor bikes but the road itself was not particularly busy. Roads in Bali are generally busy; it’s part of the culture and you learn that is normal.

I am happy to announce both meals were again prepared and served beautifully.

This time each meal had the flavour that it’s presentation suggested would be there.

I again had the cotoletta parmigiana and Joyce had a chicken burger.

Both meals were very flavoursome and I am happy to increase the rating to four stars. The service presentation and ambience were excellent last time as well so the increase from 3 to 4 stars is solely about the flavour of the food.

THE ORIGINAL REVIEW ( so not to cause confusion with the above)

A lovely restaurant set on the road overlooking the beach in the Legian region. There is an deck arrangement outside with large umbrellas to give you a view of the sea. Of course you have to look passed the road, traffic wall and stalls but none the less a nice enough ambience. There is also an ‘inside’ area but we opted for the deck.

Un be known to us initially there is, upstairs, also a lovely bar with chairs and tables adjacent to a beautiful infinity pool probably 7m by 2m in size. Not a pool for swimming but rather to cool off and take in the awesome ocean view.

The staff was very friendly and the menu sufficient.

The food was not overly priced and when it arrived it was nicely presented with chicken, sauce, salad and chips.

The main problem with the food was there was virtually no flavour. I’m not really sure how one does that but the presentation was nice, texture fine but no flavour.

It of course may have been our selection but other than that The Zanzibar was a lovely place for lunch.

We will probably go back there because everything else was...

This is the definition of the perfect restaurant.

The owner of this restaurant must be super passionate about his place. Everything is perfect... The food, the waiters, the furnishings. It's clean, the chairs are comfortable. They have a beautiful roof terrace. Also very important, the music is not loud :)

Food:

The Food is amazing, not gonna lie. You can't compare this food to the beach restaurants.. this is another level.

You can taste, that all of the food is handmade or high quality grocerys

Fritto die Calamari Garlic Bread Bruschetta Arancini (my personal favorite)

Zupa:

Risotto di Mare (must eat if you like seafood) Risotto di Funghi

Spaghetti Meatballs (OMG, this tomato sauce is fantastic) Spaghetti Bolognese (really good) Spaghetti Carbonara (it's no real carbonara, because it's made with cream and (high quality) bacon instead of Guanciale

Salad:

Chicken Cesar Salad

What you shouldn't order if you like Italian Pizza, are the Pizzas. Don't get me wrong they taste good. But we realized that good Pizza isn't a thing on Bali. But if you really wanna eat pizza, I think this is the place for it :)

Staff:

The waiters are all super friendly and courteous. Some of them recognized us, when we were here the 3rd time. Super nice :)

Price:

If you're not convinced yet to reserve a table right now, there is one last argument. The Price. If you think this high quality restaurant has to be expensive... Not even close. You can fill your belly with fantastic food for around 300k-500k IDR (20-30$) (2 People)

I want the owner of the business to see this comment, I came to your restaurant for the first time today, the menu looked quite rich! First I ordered a zucchini soup and my husband ordered a pizza and a beer, 10 minutes later I ordered a pasta and wine and I told the staff that my soup should come first and my pasta should come so that it doesn't get cold! He said yes and went back and explained again.. 15 minutes later another staff brought the service even though I told them all together twice, I told him that too and he didn't understand and left! I called again and said I don't want cold food please one, he didn't come and get it! and my wife got up and went to talk to someone else and no one there understood again!!!!! I got up and went angrily, am I explaining it like an idiot! I said I don't want the food together, don't you have a manager?? 10 minutes later the manager came and said sorry and left!!!!! the food is so delicious that I'm ashamed of giving it 1 point! the manager and staff there should change, they are making jokes with each other in the back and while the customer is tense, they are an irresponsible team among themselves!!!!! and make great pizza and soup!! this chef is doomed to be embarrassed because of this poor quality staff! I hope the incompetent...
