Bali Bohemia is located next to Monkey Forest. I had a mixed experience during my stay, while there are certainly some highlights, there are also a few issues that need serious attention.||The Good:||The staff were polite and welcoming, and the welcome drink was a nice touch after a long journey. The presence of a fridge in the room was convenient, and I felt safe throughout my stay. One of the standout features of this hotel is the absolutely beautiful garden, which create a serene and relaxing atmosphere. However, while the scenery is lovely, a hotel stay is about more than just the surroundings.||The hotel restaurant is an option if you’re looking for a meal or a drink. They also host weekly social events, which add a nice touch of entertainment and community to the stay. These ‘few’ weekly events go on to about 11pm and can be loud if you want a quiet stay. The shower was really hot and had great water pressure, which was a welcome comfort.||The Bad:||Unfortunately, there were several issues that impacted my overall comfort. The pillow was too hard for my liking, and I encountered two large cockroaches in the toilet area something that should not happen in a well maintained hotel. There was also a musty, damp, and mouldy smell that varied depending on the room, which made me question the design and poor ventilation.||The towels provided were in poor condition; I’ve honestly thrown away better ones at home. It’s frustrating to see from previous reviews (on other platforms) that management isn’t addressing this. The design of the main door left a gap. The bathroom should have impervious tiles to prevent damp issues. The windows based at low level can potentially allow insects or even small animals to enter. However, the room really has to be ventilated for a bit each day.||The toilet brush had well and truly given up. The base was filthy with water stains, the brush itself was discoloured, and overall, it was just unpleasant on the eye. In fact, it was so bad that I went out and bought a new one just so I didn’t have to look at it anymore.||The Staff seemed in no rush to clean the outside tables, and the attention to detail in housekeeping was disappointing. I struggle to understand why it’s so difficult to clean a room properly. The lighting in the room was also quite poor, making it feel dim and uninviting.||Additional Notes:||If you don’t like monkeys, this hotel may not be the best choice. They roam freely throughout the grounds, and their presence is something to be mindful of. I personally believe placing canang sari offerings around the area encouraged them as I personally witnessed this daily.||The motorbike shortcut road (next to the Hotel) is more convenient if you cut through the gap further right in the hotel area. However, the monkeys here are much more aggressive, and I’d strongly advise against walking through this area at night. Not only do their numbers triple at times but they’re more aggressive. The limited space and the sheer number of bikes make it a bit frustrating.||Final Thoughts:||Overall, while the hotel has some redeeming qualities, particularly in its garden, staff hospitality, and good shower, the cleanliness, maintenance, and room comfort need serious improvement. It they plan a better upkeep, and attention to detail, this could be a fantastic place to stay, but for now, it falls short in too many areas. However, with all that said it’s okay for a few...
Read moreI have been staying at Bali Bohemia every year since 2019 and this year I returned to Experience the New “Jungle Room” that has recently been created!||When I booked I knew that the room was not part of the main hotel however I wasn’t exactly sure where it was located until arrival!!||When I arrived the staff made sure I knew that the room was not in the hotel grounds and was infact back down the street and just along from the restaurant and the entrance was next to their onsite Bakery! I said that I was happy with that and looked forward to seeing the room!||One of the staff helped me round with my case and it became more clear where the room was! There’s a private entrance to the villa where there is a secure gate that you have a key to open, once through the gate you walk up the stairs to the room which had previously been used as an office! ||At the top of the stairs there is a good sized balcony with seats and the view is across the road into the monkey Forrest. You enter the room through large sliding doors and on entry the room is very bright with lots of windows which may be an issue to people who don’t like to be woken up by the sunlight in the morning! Ubud is so dark at nite it don’t matter about how thick the curtain. |The bed is huge with a mosquito net and like every room I have stayed in at Bali Bohemia the beds are the comfiest I have ever slept in! They are firm but just so comfortable. |The room has a kitchen area with sink, cooker and a large fridge freezer and a table and chairs to sit at to eat. The bathroom is a good size with a modern finish. Nice warm shower with good pressure. ||Overall I was very impressed with the quality of the room. The only thing that I wasn’t happy about and I told the staff was that the room does not have a safety deposit box like all the others do. I feel that as the room is not part of the hotel and there’s no one to see who is coming or going then people will be concerned that they don’t have anywhere to lock away their valuables and in this day and age people are safety conscious a safety deposit box should be standard in every room. ||There is a shortcut path from the village that the hotel is located in to the main area of Ubud and it’s also used by hundreds of bikes every single day….i was really happy to see that the lane was closed to bikes this year and hope that this is a permanent thing as it really makes a difference to how quiet the area is and I think that it made my stay in the jungle room even better as if that lane had been open then I think the room would have been very difficult to sleep in with the noise from the bikes as going by previous years staying at the hotel it’s a busy busy lane of bikes trying to skip the Ubud traffic to get into the main area quicker. ||The staff seemed to think that it will be a permanent closure to bikes but we will wait and see what happens once the repairs are finished to the path. |The path was still walkable into the centre which is great when there are no bikes. ||Overall I have to say that the room is really nice and it’s quirky as not actually in the hotel itself. |I would avoid booking it if you don’t want to be away from the hotel vibe and want the security of being inside a hotel but I have to say that the area is very safe and the room feels safe and secure especially with the secure gate at the bottom...
Read moreNice place overall. Cute room. Bohemian? I was in Czechoslovakia in the early 90s and it didn’t look like that… anyhow here’s the good dirt:
-The pool, gardens and room look nice and staff is friendly. Occasional monkey wondering around (they’re actually macaques) which is cool… one walked us to our room in fact (well, he was going in same direction anyhow…)
-Restaurant is good, if not at all Indonesian. A tad pricier than average but you can watch monkeys scratch their junk on the sanctuary wall and if you’re lucky, you can watch one harass someone unsuspecting (it’s very funny)
-convenient outlets by nightstands with integrated adapters.
-Nice patio sitting area and rack to dry clothes.
The bad dirt: -The room didn’t smell great. Kinda musty.
-As cute as those string beads covering the bathroom area entrances are, it sucked to have to always duck under them or hang yourself in them on your way to that midnight pee
-another cute but fastidious adornment: those stupid swinging double saloon doors covering the toilet room with just inches of clearance to the throne. Aside from doing nothing for privacy, If doing your business standing up, they are slapping you on the backside. Ouch splinter! …I peed in the shower instead… It gets better: If you have to sit, your knees are against the doors… wait I need to turn to get paper… aargh. Need to push one out? Don’t lean forward even an inch... oh Now your head is out between the doors and you’re being choked by them. “Oh hello darling, can I watch you brush your teeth while I poop?”
Bathrooms without adequate clearance between door and toilet have always peeved me, but these swinging doors managed to be extra annoying.
light came through the curtains easily. One curtain- the one where the sun shone through brightest in morning, wasn’t even wide enough to cover the entire window… so dumb. I like to sleep in the dark and not always wake up at crack of dawn when on vacation…
**lastly; I wanted to stay here because it is right next to the back entrance (gate 3) of the monkey sanctuary. THAT GATE IS CLOSED and it seems permanent. So it’s almost an HOUR to walk around to main entrance. If there is traffic it can still be an hour!! That was...
