I understand that new restaurants can experience some teething problems, but unfortunately, our visit to Ibby’s Kitchen was quite disappointing. We waited over an hour for our starters, even though there was only one other table of 2 people eating when we first arrived and then other people who arrived after us were served well before. No one came to check on us until around 45 minutes in, and when someone finally did approach the table, they asked if we were enjoying our mains, at which point we said that we hadn’t even received our starters yet. Throughout the evening, three different staff members came to our table, yet none of them seemed to notice that we hadn't been served any food. Initially, we were told the delay was due to the food being freshly prepared, which we assumed was a given but we had only ordered a grilled chicken leg and a samosa starter, so the lengthy wait didn’t seem justified. Later, another staff member told us that our order had actually been lost. By the time our mains finally arrived, we were extremely hungry and just wanted to leave. We had been in the restaurant for an hour and a half by that point. When we went to pay, there was no apology. I did express our disappointment, but the only response given was that they are a new restaurant. While I do think the restaurant has potential, the staff need better training and should be more attentive to what’s happening around them. The food was nice but sadly, based on this experience, we’re...
Read moreOn 26.08 at around 8pm myself and two friends went to Ibby’s Kitchen for the first time. We’re big fans of Indian food and love supporting new businesses in Sligo. We shared starters and amongst them was a dish called Chicken 65 which was chicken in a spicy sauce. You could tell staff were finding their feet and service was slow but we were in no rush so it didn’t bother us.
Half way through eating the dish, my friend and I realised that the chicken was pink and undercooked in the middle. We alerted staff and the dish was returned to the kitchen. Nobody acknowledged the mistake or extended apologies.
While paying the bill I asked the staff member was anyone going to acknowledge what had happened and it was clear they didn’t want to engage in conversation. I tried to talk to the staff member about the dangers of serving undercooked poultry to which they responded the busy was busy and they were rushing food out. They were reluctant to offer an apology and just about took the cost of the chicken dish off the bill never mind anything else. Everyone makes mistakes and had it been handled in a respectful and kind way, we would have moved on from it but their response was disappointing and concerning. Here’s hoping myself and my friend avoid...
Read moreI was excited to try Ibby’s Kitchen for the first time, but unfortunately, my experience left me feeling underwhelmed.
I ordered the Royal Mixed Grill Sizzler since they were out of beef, and to be honest, it was a bit of a letdown. The dish lacked the flair I was hoping for, and the base of charred onions was completely burnt. I don’t think it was meant to be charred to the point where it was barely recognizable. It’s a shame because the potential was there, but it missed the mark on execution.
My partner opted for the Moroccan Chicken, which the menu specifically states comes with a bed of egg-fried rice. However, we were served plain white rice instead, with no explanation or heads-up about the change. It felt like a downgrade, especially since it didn’t match what was promised on the menu. A quick note or a simple mention about the substitution would have been appreciated.
The next day, I wasn’t feeling well, but I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt since it could have been caused by anything and not the meal itself.
Overall, I was disappointed with my first visit to Ibby’s Kitchen. I might give it another shot in the coming months, hoping they’ll redeem themselves with a more...
