I love board games. I play them weekly with my group. I gently prod my partner into playing them with me as often as i can. So, when I'm traveling, I like to check out local board game cafes to spend a few hours. This shop, as it is, is hard to recommend to gamers.
The model here is to pay 5€ per hour per person up to a max of 15€/person (after that, you can play as long as you like). One hour of gaming is NOTHING. I can't get settled at a table and pick out a game in less than 10 minutes. I can't set up some games in less than 20 minutes. I can't learn some games in less than 25 minutes, even longer if learning AND teaching. So, I might be paying 5€/person to read a rulebook and setup a game.. I get it, hourly pricing is great for folks playing over a coffee break, but it's awful for gamers. Just charge me 8-10€ flat for the night, as it stands it's not worth coming here to game unless I'm playing for 4+ hours. Even then, I have to do the math, 3-4 players at 15€ each.. maybe i can buy the game for that price.
The store is new, so some games are still in shrink wrap. Awesome that there are new games, but it means those games are basically unplayable AND if i do want to play them, i'm literally paying to punch out and sort someone else's game - that's crazy. Leave them off the shelf until they're unpacked and sorted!
From a hobbyist perspective, the collection of games is okay, a 6/10. There are some classics - Carcasonne, Splendor, etc. There are some medium-heavy greats - Scythe, Eclipse 1e, Brass Birmingham, Root. And there are some new-ish games - Expeditions, Furnace, Ark Nova (still in shrink... that's a 30 minute unpack...). But the collection is small and a bit lacking for an enthusiast. I'm sure that'll change with time.
Last note, the snacks are limited. I don't think there's a substantial enough food/drink menu for me to spend a long span of time here. I can only go so far on coffee, soda, and candy. If I could order a beer and a sandwich, I'd be more inclined to game for hours.
All said, I love everything in the board game community. I want everyone to play and enjoy board games so I'm glad this place exists although it's not for me, and probably not for...
