If you set out to design the perfect gastropub you would end up with a version of the Purty Kitchen. As we crossed the road approaching the pub we were smiled at by some very happy diners leaving a full house at 8:00 PM on a Saturday night. This was a good sign. As you open the door and walk in the atmosphere immediately grabs you: it's got that almost impossible to measure buzz about it. IE the right mix of atmosphere, chatter, music, lighting, smell and interior design. All of this serves to immediately put you at ease and tell you you're in for a good evening. The staff are really helpful and brought us to a really nice corner table with a full view of the space. Pre-dinner drinks were promptly served while we went through the menu which is clearly designed to celebrate top quality Irish ingredients without being at all pretentious. It's the sort of place where you can have a really high end fish dish or top quality steak or just sit at the bar with a burger and a pint. Amongst the dishes we had where prawns pill pill, calamari, mussels and fish and chips All of which were as good as you will get and perfect for a place like this by the sea. We were really impressed with the selection of wines available by the glass which went well above and beyond the usual Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot. There is a well-trained and enthusiastic young team running the floor and it's clear the owners take a hands on approach as their presence could be seen orchestrating affairs. As the night went on and people finished their dinners the place morphed into being a nice relaxed local pub where people were enjoying a bottle of wine, a cocktail or just a few pints. We travelled across town to meet friends there and it's really convenient being literally a couple of minutes from the dart station. This is definitely a place we will be back to again and again and a big thank you to all the staff for a...

So in response to you Mark it was 9pm in the evening no one else was coming out to eat on a cold Saturday evening your a joke of a business with rude staff I've spoken to former employees who said just as much so you keep believing, you obviously don't care if it's taking you 4 months to reply....my money is being spent in much better establishments....Ireland is known for it's welcome to people but they obviously don't care about that in this place. They only seem to care if you are there to eat the overpriced food and not to have a social drink with friends. On my recent return to this place I was met by the hostess who said sorry we haven't got anywhere for you despite lots of seating about. She tells me I have a table outside if you just want to drink. Never have I been so insulted ,she would rather us sit outside on a cold evening. Never will I return to this place again terrible customer service they rather turn away good local customers. Well the pub my partner and daughter did go to very much appreciated the business. Visit 8a if your looking for good food and pleasant customer service in monkstown and for a better pub experience pop up to Mc kennas in dun laoghaire, they won't...

Had a lovely dinner here with friends last night. The restaurant was very full so definitely book in advance if you want to visit at the weekend! We had quite a late booking and the restaurant was still packed (even when we left!). The atmosphere was really lively, warm and friendly. Our food and drinks were also delicious. I had the mussles which were amazing. The sauce they were cooked in was very tasty, the portion was generous and the accompaniments were great! The chicken wings as a starter also have an option to have as a main with chips which looked good and the fish and chips also looked great. I had the house white which is used in the mussle sauce and it was lovely. Really impressed with the food we had. The staff were really fantastic too. Very helpful and prompt. Can't fault the service and our waitress was great.

Updated 2025: food still very good but the front of house letting everything down sadly.. Very poor experience tonight. 25 minutes between courses. Never brought drinks that were ordered. Never came back with dessert menus etc. Just all very disconnected.. Hopefully owners or management read this. The chef has saved this from being worse. Updated 2021: went for early evening food with a friend. The food, service, and atmosphere was incredible. 5/5. The calamari was the best I've had. 2019: Top quality food and excellent service. Lovely atmosphere for afternoon lunch or dinner. The burger is gourmet. House red was delicious. Will certainly return soon. Insider tip - Plenty of free weekend parking directly over the railway tracks from the pub. You can then use the pedestrian foot bridge to walk there in a couple of minutes.
