Avoid the duck, bring a stopwatch

I have wanted to try Hang Dai for some time now so decided to give it a whirl. Website indicates restaurant is open 1-10pm on Saturdays. This is not the case. We booked a table for 5pm, informed it was a 90min booking, no problem for us. Pre-ordered the duck for 2.

Arrived about 15mins before hand to try a cocktail as I heard great things, not possible. We were then given multiple updates on how we only had 90mins and how much time we had left throughout our visit, which turned us off completely, in fact we left early as a result, perhaps the intention.

Advised to order just one or two starters as the main is supposedly large. (Again not sure if this was a get in get out recommendation)

Ordered the cheeseburger spring roll and prawn toasts with yuzu as read the reviews. Spring roll was spot on, really does taste like a cheeseburger, could have eaten 5 of them easily. Prawn Toasts was nice, but similar to any other really, perhaps a little lighter.

Duck comes as sliced breast, some skin, one leg, one half a head with pancakes, hoisin and a side of noodles with (I was informed) duck leg meat chopped through (perhaps it was the wing?) Duck breast cooked perfectly and it was nice, but honestly tasted like any shredded duck with pancakes...no wow factor, no real difference. It's for two but it wasn't that large really, I could have eaten the entire thing. We ordered four cocktails, which we drank quite quickly, time was ticking!! which were hit and miss, Satay Away was too overpowered by the seasonings for my taste, we were asked if we wanted a "last cocktail" as we had to leave shortly....at 12 Euro a pop with the intimation of knock it back we didnt bother.

If we go back we would not want the time pressure, so if you have a specific time to turn around it's something to note. I appreciate they have to manage seats but too mentioned too many times. I would recommend you seek a booth, or upstairs area, seats at the counter are too tight in my opinion and I would only use it to have a few snacks and a cocktail. We went with the duck based on reviews, if you have had duck pancakes before then skip it, I would try some of their other dishes, probably better displays the skills...

Amazing atmosphere and the best food revelation ever. I came here with my partner to have a nice dinner for my birthday, I have always been curious about this place but never got the chance to visit. The place is really stunning, the low lighting creates a warm atmosphere and the design is really traditional and futuristic at the same time. The whole menu looked very interesting and we couldn't really decide, so we split the tasting menu and a very nice bottle of wine. Best choice ever to try a bit of everything. The staff are very knowledgeable and helpful and make you feel very comfortable. All the food was handled impeccably (oh my god, the tenderness of the meat!) and shows the love and creativity they have in preparing the meals.

The duck croquettes was the most powerful and unexpected eating experience I have ever had. First bite, enlightenment, real tears that I couldn't stop. The taste was exactly the same as my grandmother's homemade croquettes, which were her favourite and long missed starter at all of our family dinners. It came as a shock to me, which is crazy because we're Italian and the ingredients aren't even exactly the same, but after almost 10 years I made peace with the idea that I would never eat those croquettes again in my life, and finding them in a Chinese restaurant in Dublin for my birthday was the greatest gift ever. I explained this to the staff to apologise for my reaction and not only did the chef offer me an extra portion free of charge but they also brought me a delicious biscuit ice cream with a candle at the end of the meal.

I just wanted to thank you again for the whole experience, which would have been great even without this Proust's Madeleine. I'm really grateful for all the passion and love you put into your work, and I'm honestly sorry I couldn't afford a bigger tip, because you guys really deserve it. Needless to say, I'll recommend this place to everyone I know and we'll be back as soon as possible to try the rest of the food we didn't get a chance to try, and to get that warm feeling of home whenever I need...

Went here with a group of 4 for NYE. Supposed to be 6 but Covid hit 2 of the party. NYE is such a mixed bag and this ended up being a great choice. Would definitely go back on a regular night as well. Firstly, staff were excellent. I initially talked to one of the staff in November and she was super friendly and told us that we were eating late at 9:00 PM that we could have then table for the night. A few days before another staff called to confirm our reservation and to see if we wanted to pre-order the duck (we did, and it was excellent). Super nice as well. On NYE I called to change from 6 to 4 and there was no problem. When we arrived, the staff were super friendly (great genuine welcome from the host). Waiter and other servers throughout the night were excellent. I got the impression that this is a good place to work as everybody was pretty chill and worked well together. The food was excellent. Normally don’t eat a lot of Chinese (more of a Thai and sushi person). However, everything was excellent. The 2 standout dishes were the Tuna Tataki and the duck (we only ordered a half duck and wished we had ordered a full one). The deserts were very old school but perfect for an after dinner treat. The drinks / cocktails were excellent and well-priced. What I loved was the restaurant just went with their regular menu for NYE. No special menu for NYE at €100+ like other venues. The space is super cool as well. Very different. Almost feels like you are kind of on a bus or a restaurant in the far east (you need to look at pix). Make sure you are on then ground floor as the people watching is great. Lastly the place became clubby after dinner with people dancing. The music was excellent. Great re-mixes. I believe it is like this most weekends. Overall super happy we were...

We had a nice experience at the Hang Dai. We got prawns and pork which were very nice! Prawns were absolutely fantastic - some of the best I’ve had in Dublin by far. Staff were nice and friendly however if you’re price conscious I would advise asking about all the extras and replacements etc. There *may* be costs that aren’t exactly upfront. The atmosphere is lovely and authentic; nice use of converted alias / Train facilities gives it a really nice vibe. The place and toilets are overall clean and well maintained by the look of it. Cocktails were lovely and not packed with ice for no reason. Pros are definitely food. 100% tasty, mouth watering food. Definitely leaves you wanting for more. Staff is friendly and cocktails are great. It’s very modern, hip, music was at a lovely level to the point you can still have a conversation. On the downside, the prices are quite high for the portions received. Just glancing around at other tables that ordered started, I wouldn’t be able to justify paying €12-18 for a starter that’s 2/3 bites of food when the mains are between €22-26. Even the mains were relatively low density compared to what you would get in other restaurants for the same / lower price. The seating was interesting; sort of bar-like experience as you would get from a Ramen bar (for 2 people) - if you’re on a date perhaps you should specify that you’d like a booth. It was definitely a nice experience and recommend people to visit at least once and try it out for themselves, but until there’s more accreditation to the establishment (awards), I will only be returning on special occasions. I would love to mention the staff was extremely nice to keep a spot for us as we had to delay for 30m and even arrived 10m late to the extended time due to traffic conditions.

we went here on a January sale voucher. Great value. Ordered from regular menu unlike voucher deals in some places. Staff were very welcoming and helpful. Food was great. House wine was a very drinkable Sicilian red and not overpriced. Our shared starters of chilli and salt squid, a bit to hot for me but not my partner, and warm scallops with pickled vedge were delicious. We opted to share the half duck served with pancakes, cucumber and scallions. The skin was nicely charred and the breast was thinly sliced rather than shredded. Tasted very morish. Very busy with a great buzz. We will be back without a voucher. We returned in August 22 post pandemic. The staff were still great and the food very nice. Scallops and tuna starters were brilliant, Pork char siu also very nice. Temperanillo wine just O.K. Only drawback was coffee, not hot and no choice, Brandy, served in wrong glass. A top restaurant should always have Brandy balloons. We will be back. Tip: If you are not so mobile there is a well equipped disability toilet at the back on ground floor.

Hmm... where to start?! Pretty cool interior design (but not pretentious cool) extremely consistently friendly staff and awesome food which was authentic in taste. Very unique experience and a kinda hidden gem on Camden st. LOVED this place. We were only in it for a couple of hours mid week, but the hospitality of the staff, the general atmosphere and the delicious food... definitely, without a doubt one of my favourites. The music... wow! The cocktails... woah... (I'm lost for actual words at this point!) You're kinda transported to another realm and you forget that you're actually still in Ireland. Its hard to put it into words... like, where else in Dublin can you have fresh oysters and chicken wings in a fluorescent, neon, futuristic/dystopian looking subway/underground train booth...?! 🤷🏽‍♀️ IKR!! Sophistication and cool had a baby and came up with this place! 😁 Highly recommended and will definitely be back. Try it. You can thank me later!
