I honestly wish I could give more stars. Tonight is the last night of vacation with my family and we scoured the internet looking for a place to have our last dinner. We are pretty obsessed with a tapas restaurant back home in Chicago, and looking at the menu and reviews we chose The Port House, Cava. Walking in it literally felt as if we walked into one of our own family members homes. There were a man and woman working (forgive me, I don't remember thier names) and they were so warm and friendly welcoming us in. We're traveling with our 8 month old and the man instantly brought over a high chair and helped my son into it, and even helped buckle him in. This has never happened in any other restaurant. High chairs yes but never have we had anyone so carefully assist our son into the high chair and make sure he was safely secured. We exchanged some small talk, he was amazing with my son (the entire evening) and both he and his co worker could not have been friendlier or more attentive to everyone dining. I am not exaggerating when I say it was like being in a family members home for dinner. And the tapas. Wow. Absolutely incredible. We ordered 6 tapas dishes and even the asparagus was perfection. Throughout our dinner I watched the restaurant grow busier yet the two working the front never wavered on thier hospitality even though they were both working thier tails off. Everything was utterly delicious (I highly recommend the grilled octopus) and my wife and I raved about the experience the entire way back to where we are staying. Even the ambiance of the restaurant is calming and welcoming which says a lot being on a busy city street. This is our second time in Ireland and if I had to recommend one place to definitely go check out it would be this one. Phenomenal food, great prices, incredible service. There is not one single negative thing I could say about the entire dinner. Thank you to the staff for making our last night in Ireland...
Read moreThe staff here are absolutely stunningly amazing. I'm always blown away by how genuinely nice, kind and attentive they are. The manager must be great here/great team.
Customer service here is possibly the best you'll get anywhere in Dublin. IN MY OPINION.
As far as I'm aware, I may be totally wrong, but it's owned by The Porterhouse Group so the food is pretty similar if you're used to doing the Dublin foodie circuit rounds and you're familiar with those sorts of tastes. But it's always delicious. So much to choose from! Too much to choose from, but that's the fun of it! I was here like three days ago and I'm still stuffed!
I've been to all the Port House tapas and wine bars in Dublin and the one in London. In MY OPINION this is hands down the best one. No posers here...! I quit alcohol but when I was drinking the wine was fantastic. So much to choose from.
I don't think they do beers though... I may be wrong. There are pubs up the road for after, if you feel like bloating yourself even more with some pints!
If you're having a bad day, even if you just want to go in for a glass of wine to drown your sorrows, the staff will make your day a whole lot better! One thing though, is that they ask for the table back after two hours or so because they get really, really busy. In all fairness they're not gonna kick you out and deny you food if you order more when your time is almost up!
But it's kind to be courteous to other people, so eat your food, have your fun and go try not to take advantage by lingering just because you can. Take care beautiful beings, happy...
Read moreI held a birthday party here, and I was so impressed with the level of service we received. First of all, we were originally booked into the Temple Bar garden area, but it was starting to rain and they phoned me an hour ahead of the party to offer to move our reservation to a sister branch that had space for all of us indoors. Highly appreciated this effort and advance planning.
At Cava, there was no issue with our reservation that had moved, and our waitress was lovely. She never left us without water (which she soon realised we would need a lot of), but she didn't hang around and check in TOO much. Just the right amount. They got all our orders exactly right - no small feat with 8 people ordering at least four plates each. I realise this is a tapas restaurant where this is the standard situation, but with a fully booked restaurant at peak dinner hour, it's always great to not have any slip-ups with orders. We had a coeliac at the table, and it was made clear to us that she could enjoy the entire menu, except burgers and puff pastry items. This was a welcome change for my friend who is always stuck with a tiny selection of things to choose from at other restaurants. The atmosphere on the top floor was wonderful, with it's own bar meaning we never had to wait long for anything. The food was delicious, but I feel some of the meat plates are slightly overpriced for the size of the portion. Overall though, everything is high quality and I'd pay the price again. Highly recommended...
