I recently dined at Gatto Rosso, and unfortunately, the overall experience left much to be desired. While the atmosphere was average, the service was satisfactory at best, and the quality of the food was quite disappointing, particularly the chicken penne.
Starting with the atmosphere, I found it to be rather ordinary. Although it was clean and adequately lit, there was nothing remarkable about the setting that would leave a lasting impression.
Moving on to the service, it was just okay. The staff members were polite and attentive to some extent, but there were moments when it felt like they were rushing through their duties. It would have been more enjoyable if they had taken the time to engage with customers, providing personalized recommendations or simply demonstrating a genuine interest in making the dining experience more enjoyable. Overall, the service lacked that extra touch of warmth and attentiveness that elevates an average dining experience to a great one.
However, the most disappointing aspect of my visit was the food, particularly the chicken penne. Regrettably, it was the driest dish I have ever had the misfortune of tasting. The chicken itself lacked tenderness and flavor, making each bite feel like a struggle. The accompanying sauce was bland and failed to enhance the overall flavor profile.
In conclusion, my experience at Gatto Rosso was average at best. While the atmosphere was unremarkable, the service was acceptable but lacked the personal touch that can make a dining experience memorable. We went to Gatto Rosso in Galway to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and unfortunately, it turned into a very frustrating and humiliating experience.
Their card machine wasn’t working properly. We were charged twice on two different cards, even though the manager insisted the transactions were declined. We ended up paying a third time with a different card – so we paid three times for one meal.
When we asked for help, the manager was extremely rude and dismissive. She said the money would just “go back” and told us to deal with the bank. The bank gave us transaction codes (ARNs) that the restaurant could use to reverse the charges, but when we called back, she refused to help again and said we had to return in person – something she never mentioned before. We live two hours away!
No apology, no empathy, no effort to fix the situation. Just disrespect and terrible customer service. A special day turned into a stressful, embarrassing situation, and we’re still trying to get our money back.

You couldn’t shake a smile out of them. I felt very judged eating my food because they questioned the amount of food I ordered. Secondly while I was eating my dinner, they were laughing at me and pointing not in my language, however, there was a male standing in the pizzeria staring at me when I was eating my dinner. I didn’t take much notice to it, until I counted to 10 minutes in my head and he was still staring at me, but this time with his tongue out. uncomfortable wouldnt be the word to describe how I was feeling. To end how I was feeling I had to turn my back to him.
