Mediocre. This place has been on my bucket list for a while and I was looking forward to dining here. The interior decor is dated and the wall paper was quite literally peeling off of the wall in some spots. I think if you’re going to charge higher end prices for food the interior does need to also reflect this. Free bread for the table is always a nice touch however the plates of bread are left sitting on a ledge by the doorway- very unhygienic as anyone passing the door can touch it. Our table was upstairs and rather cramped, I do think it would’ve been better to remove two tables upstairs because our waitress was pressed against the wall trying to pass the table beside us to serve our table. I felt bad for her. We ordered our drinks… 30 minutes wait time. Not impressed by the long waits. Food, 1 hour wait time. Again, not impressed. I ordered a steak, well done and unfortunately it was medium. I showed the waitress the inside of my pink steak and said “look it’s fine I’ll eat it it because I’m starving but just to note it”. When paying the bill I always did say this to the manager and his reaction was kind of funny, insisting that I should have sent it back. However, if I ask for something to be cooked a certain way that’s what I expect. I don’t like sending food back and especially after a long wait time I wasn’t going to do that. Food was good, nothing amazing but to be honest I do think this place could thrive if the service was better. I don’t think it’s a fault of the waitress but she just seemed nervous and not adjusted. She was carrying one plate at a time, I just think with a days training she could be shown how to properly carry plates. It’s little details like these which make an experience top notch. She was a lovely waitress just not well trained. There’s room to improve here.

I ate here by chance as a walk-in on a Saturday night during my stay in Galway. There was a slight drizzle and most places were packed on Quay St. This place was packed too, but I noticed the seats (only 3) at the bar were open and I asked if I could sit. I started with the goat beet salad and went with a light fare entree the Mac and Cheese along with some red Spanish wine. Both were really good and the staff were very friendly. The same thing happened to me on Monday night. I did not realize it was a holiday weekend here and people attending the college football game in Dublin came over to Galway for a stay. It was raining again and places were packed. I peaked in and noticed the bar seats open, so I sat down. This time I went with the 9 oz. Hereford steak with frites, caramelized onions and mushrooms. The steak was cooked perfectly and flavorful. I finished with a crème brûlée and decaf cappuccino. They were both on point! Crème brûlée had a perfect crust and coffee was one of the best I had during my stay. Again, the staff were very friendly. Kudos to both bartenders who were making drinks non stop while I was seated and it wasn’t your basic drinks either. What really stood out to me were the number of people coming in from the rain asking for a table without reservations and this place found a way to accommodate a majority of the requests to the point of opening up the second floor. They go the extra step. The place has nice and warm cozy ambiance. In my opinion, I think it is underrated. I would definitely come back here again during a visit; not only is food really good, it’s the kind of place you want to give business!

What an excellent place to be! This was on my list for a while and I finally got to try their amazing food last night. Before I start praising the food, which is actually one the best I’ve had in Galway, I’d like to give a big shoutout to the staff. They were super busy and still managed to ensure that we had a wonderful experience. Every server was at their best — so kind and thoughtful, chatty in a good way, and absolutely amazing when it came to service. The food is class apart. We ordered oysters, sautéed mushrooms, steak, chicken supreme. For dessert, we had chocolate delice and bread pudding. Everything was blasting with great flavours. One of the best steak I have had in Galway. Even the chicken for main course was so juicy and tender — I wasn’t very sure of my order honestly but I am glad I chose it because boy, oh boy, I looooved it. Oysters were okayish - I’ve had better ones in Galway. A great fresh oyster is usually velvety smooth and soft but not mushy. While they did have a decent seawater flavour, I feel it could be fresher and better. It could be just me being me in this case, so use your judgement people. I am more of a chocolate person so for me, chocolate delice was the first choice and I truly believe it was the best. I was full after the main course that I had to take a break in between to be able to finish up. The selection of wine is okay. A bit overpriced. I expected it be more varied considering they call it a wine bar but the food totally made up for it. Price wise, I wouldn’t call it reasonable. But but but the food coma was worth every penny. You gotta try this place if you haven’t already.

I am writing on behalf of my parents.

They had made a booking for this evening well in advance as they do not get to go for dinner together often and tonight was a special night as it was their Anniversary.

They were seated in a crammed corner for 2 people even tho the place was empty, the booking was for 7pm. The waitress came down with the bottle of wine I had arranged and paid for the night before as part of their gift. From when they arrived to when their order was finally taken after asking three times, it was 58minutes. They waited a further 30 min for their starter and quickly followed the main meal without the chance to finish/enjoy the starter.

When they finished they were left for ages without anyone approaching them to see if everything was ok or to clear the empty plates or offer another drink or tea or coffee. While eating another couple sat next to them and were waiting the similar time to my parents, they ordered tea and coffee to finish and when it did not come after 30 mins after paying the bill they got up and left.

We had purchased the voucher as a gift and the bottle of wine as part of an Anniversary evening out. And they were utterly disappointed in the evening.

When the went to pay the bill, there was no questions asked ‘how was everything?, Did you enjoy the evening?’ They spent over €100 between the voucher, bottle of wine and cash they had to pay the balance, and not even a sorry or discount was offered….

I manage in the industry and I can understand pressure or short staff, but my parents both said there was staff there they were just busy chatting and falling over each-other. Very...
