Massimo Bar Galway — Restaurant in Galway

TL;DR version: Food was fine, but service was extremely poor.

Arrived on a Saturday evening with a booking, but the place wasn't busy. Dining area was noticeably cold (warmed up later). We were left with menus for 10 minutes before anyone thought to see if we wanted a drink. (Good variety of craft beers available). One of our party asked for a cocktail, was told their cocktail bar only opened a couple of hours later. (Fifteen minutes later, we hear the cocktail shaker in use and another customer got one...)

Our party of four ordered a steak, a pizza, and two portions of calamari, with a side each for the latter. Mains arrived ok (had to ask for a steak-knife), but we had to remind staff about sides - one person had finished his main before his chips arrived! (Which is puzzling, as my steak came with chips, so it's not like they weren't being cooked). No apology for lateness. Food was tasty.

Gripe: steak arrived on a wooden block with no lip; needless to say, half the salad got spilled on the floor/table/my lap. #WeWantPlates

After dessert, we asked for the bill - 20 minutes later, it still hadn't arrived. We paid at the bar, and left without tipping - something I don't think I've done in over 10 years, but really, the service was that poor!

I could understand it if they'd been really busy, but there were empty tables around and nobody was rushed...

We were married near Galway in September and had a welcome event with drinks and bites for friends and family at Massimo the evening before. We interacted with Karen via email in advance and everything was very smooth. We had delicious food brought in from Kai (the party platters were great, though very large portions - we definitely overestimated!). We had a small section at the back of the venue cordoned off, with candles on the tables which made a nice ambience. The staff at Massimo were amazing - so kind and accommodating. Emer was our point of contact for the evening. She made sure we had everything we needed, even helping to get a vegetarian option on the fly. She was incredible to work with. The drinks were delicious! We had a great time and would definitely recommend Massimo for an event or just a drink. We will be back next time we are...

As a regular customer thats being going here since the day it opened, we will never go again. To be told to form a queue to enter and see the place empty inside i asked why are we queing. The verbal abuse towards me began with all three doormen screaming in my ear, telling me to F... OFF ELSEWHERE IF I DONT WANNA QUEUE. The door i was leaning against at the top of the queue waz kicked from the inside to make me jump with fright as they continued to laugh and joke among themselves about b js and women. They made me wait 40 minutes to get in and the place was dead inside everyone in the queue started complaining. I only queued because my daughter and nieces were inside. Such a pity that our favourite pub has dropped its rating to 0 with the type of staff that meet you at the door of the place. Dont...
