Worst breakfast deal I've seen in Galway. BY FAR.
I'm a Galway local, and eat breakfast out frequently. I know Galway standards in price, quality and service. I was utterly appalled by all three at Mocha Beans in early April 2019. I ordered the Scrambled Eggs and Toast (with crispy bacon). What arrived on my table, and which I paid Euro 7.95 for is exactly what you see in the photo below (and is untouched by me when I photographed it).
A not-too-big portion of rubbery, dry, tasteless scrambled eggs (microwaved according to a recent negative review which I believe!!!), two miserly small strips of non-crispy bacon, and two slices of toast, and a little relish as condiment, with a sloppy splash of condiment on rim as shown, all on a cold plate, which made everything get cold very quickly. NOTHING else was included, no, no tea, coffee or anything, nor was water offered.
I did complain, and the staff, while they remained polite, they were polite in a cold and entirely unsympathetic way, with no hint that they had any sense that the customer had even the tiniest valid reason to be unhappy. All told, the food quality, service, attitude and price would have made sense if I was getting a snack at an army cafeteria and paying around Euro 2.25 for it, rather than Euro 7.95 for what should be a decent-sized plate in a cafe. I'll be coming here again only if I'm starving and everywhere else is closed.
By the way, the BEST breakfast deal I have come across in Galway, is at Deely's Café on Mainguard Street (check my other reviews). A very nice full Irish breakfast including coffee goes for this...
Read moreWe came in for breakfast and all had different breakfasts. The staff was friendly enough and the ambiente was nice. BUT: They charged 3,95 for scrambled eggs. When they arrived we were all a bit confused about the consistency. As we were sitting next to the kitchen we saw that they microwaved the eggs! I am so upset to have paid 3,95 for microwaved eggs! My friend had a full irish and the black pudding was just raw! Everything was very overpriced for the obvious lack of quality. The smoked salmon also didn't taste that fresh on the bagel and my stomach was pretty upset afterwards. I could go on and on about the food, but I think it gives a good example of what is going on, I can only hope it was a one time off. Also the coffee shots should be longer, the americano looked like a latte when it arrived. All in all it was a very upsetting experience, especially because we spent so much money, as it is very very pricey, even for Salthill. Two stars for the ambiente and for my friends breakfast burrito that was at least edible. I don't usually write such long reviews but I just feel like the place should overthink their...
Read moreI would be reluctant to give this such a high ratings because I might have a problem in getting a table next time. But in the age old spirit of sharing on the net from my earliest experiences when the Whitehouse was the only website in color I am going to let you in my little secret.
This is my fav coffee house in Galway. Situated in the chic seaside resort of Salthill a stones throw from the sea as they say. It would be a worthy stop off point if you are travelling the Wild Atlantic Way as it is exactly the mid point of the route.
With excellent coffee as a given what makes Mocha Beans stand out is the quality of the food. My favorite is the pancakes with lashings of streaky bacon and maple syrup. The staff are excellent too and very friendly and look after...
