Worst place for tourists and foreigners. We were a group of French people visiting for the week-end. We had spent over 150⏠in less than an hour and got kicked out of the bar. The reason was that an old bitter lady (a regular to this bar) started to shush us (like in a library) when we were toasting our drinks. She started a racist rant saying that if we wanted to be loud we should go back to our country.
Note that to her, we were too loud (we were talking and laughing as usual) in a pub that was playing Iron Maiden a minute ago. This did not make any sense. She then sent out her husband to complain to the bar man (that was extremely rude while serving us) and had the pleasure to us to kick us out. Another regular confirmed to us that this specific lady had done the same thing to a group of Spanish people and that ââshe didnât like them because they are loud peopleââ.
I tried to explain to the bar man that she had been extremely rude towards us and explained the racist slurs that was said and he still took her side. Told us plain and simple that he was siding with her because she was a regular no matter what she said.
On that note, I had no idea that we were in a tea room and we were supposed to whisper. Itâs a pub, people drink, laugh and celebrate. This type of racist behaviour shouldâve been looked down upon by the employee at the bar and not encouraged. Regular customer or not. Thanks to her, she is tainting the reputation of that pub. Very disappointed as this never happened to me in Ireland, people are so welcoming here no matter what your ethnicity is. Iâm aware that this is an isolated incident, but this pub missed out on a lot of money that we were willing to...
Read moreI was quite honestly astonished by my experience in Sally's over the weekend and not in a positive way . I have been coming here for years every time I visit Galway and always have great memories of the place. Unfortunately the last few times iv been here I have found the regulars of this Pub to be unwelcoming, rude and quite frankly aggressive and intimidating. I was sitting out the back in the smoking area with my friend when we where approached on the bench by a heavy set man, Shaved Bald head, with a larger Goatee style Beard down to his chest(Early to mid 40s id say). He set down then proceed to roll up his Cigarette Paper with the plastic and foil and flicked very aggressively into my friend face and then proceeded to say "You wouldn't say that if you knew who I was around here" he started with more intimidating behavior and at time with underlying homophobic undertones. We decided to leave to get out of the situation where he then told me to Sit down aggressively. Its at this point we just laughed and left. This type of behavior is COMPLETLEY unacceptable towards anybody and this situation needs to be treated very seriously. The locals on this Pub need to accept the fact that Galway's is a huge Tourist destination with all walks of life walking into the Pub. This isn't the first time iv seen this happen hence this report. Its obvious that Sally's aren't doing anything about this or they may not be fully aware of it. But something needs to be done before...
Read moreMade some really great memories here. Itâs my regular pub and a great, safe, inclusive space. As an alternative woman safety is a big concern of mine, and the staff have always gone above and beyond to ensure that the space is all about that.
The staff are also always on the ball, ready to make drinks and even remember your favourites. A big shout out to Rohan at the bar who always greets my boyfriend and I when we come in! He also makes amazing cocktails.âșïž
They also host so many free events, catering to their local alternative community with such care and love. The summer BBQs were amazing. Thank you Sallyâs!đ€
