The overall three-star rating is to support a local business in such a hard time. Food- 3 stars, just fine. I only tried one curry which was not impressive. And simplest plain rice charged extra nearly 3 euros, which has never seen in other Asian restaurants I have tried in Galway. Cocktail- 4 stars. Good taste good feature. There are a long list of cocktail to choose. Tried the Asian Tea Gin, worth to try but not for drinkers who look for large size of drinks. Service- 2 stars only to the girl who took our oder. She was friendly. But the manager worth only 1 star!!!!!!This is the reason I leave my very first comment on Google. Walked in and booked a table for 7:45pm on a Thursday night FACE TO FACE with the manager (I assumed this only guy who wore suite in the restaurant is the manager. I know the owners are lovely Asian couple). I was told by him the ONLY indoor table I could book for that time was the table like a bar table and would be free WHOLE night. Arrived at the restaurant at 7:20pm. My friend and I were told that we arrived too early and if we booked a table at 7:45pm and we should not be in the restaurant earlier than that time. I asked if we could sit at a table in the garden to wait and this manager said yes but we would have to leave that table in 5 mins as it was booked as well. Well, so we went for a walk till we can be seated at 7:45pm. As soon as we left the restaurant, this manager called me and tried to convince me that I wanted to book a table at 7:45pm but he confirmed with me with a reservation at 8:45pm. I was shocked and upset. Wow, that's too much. DO NOT EVER try to convince a customer that she/ he makes a mistake which she/ he did not!!! That is terrible. If there are other customers cut in the que, just tell the truth. I would be so happy to spend my time and money somewhere else instead of in a place that managed by someone like him and being accused of making a mistake which I DID NOT! And I hope there is no other reasons that this manager treated me and my friend like this ( we are both colored females). This ruined my whole experience at the restaurant that I have been looking forward to visiting. Suggestion- Please clarify to any customer that the simplest plain rice is not a free side dish included in any meal in the restaurant when...
Read moreThe Asian Tea House is certainly worth all the awards plastered on the doorway as you come in. Every dish is delicious and we left in sight discomfort as we decided to go for the mains and starters. We will never learn. I had the Wonton Soup and the Beef ho fun. Wifey tried the Gyoza and the Mee Goreng, and the Squitch tried the Miso Soup and the Duck. This is not authentic Asian cuisine. With a little of everything... some Chinese, Thai, Malaysian, Indian and Japanese inspired dishes. Everything was fantastic tasting and the use of local Irish vegetables in the dishes, notably the cabbage and carrots, was a nice twist on them. Sadly this also caused a slight disappointment. For me my wontons were deep fried and the soup was generally more busy than it should have been. Nice and peppery, though wifey thought it was bland, I enjoyed it. My Beef Ho Fun, was heavily substituted with more locally available options. And while it was delicious, it just wasn't what I was hoping for. Think Rashers, New potatoes and lettuce instead of Bacon and cabbage, with mash. A lot of the dishes are Asian inspired with new western tastes catered for. I was so excited, and disappointed, but thoroughly enjoyed nonetheless, the beef was cooked to perfection. Wifeys Gyoza and Mee Goreng were also nice. But personally the Mee Goreng was too spicy for my tastes. My Squitch had the Miso Soup, again a simple broth soup that looked over busy. The Duck and fried rice, which I tasted, was delicious. Huge portion which required a doggy bag. But I was impressed as the duck was not over cooked or dry. Wifey and I would have the duck on our next visit. The drinks here are also special. From the range of cocktails to the traditional teas. I tried some of the draft IPAs, absolutely lovely with strong citrus flavours. The Jasmine was a perfect mouth cleanser and lovely smooth flavour. This place is a great place to eat. And while I would have not called this traditional Asian food. I would still recommend the dishes here. It's Asian food with some western inspiration. This creates some very novel and delicious dishes that are worthy in...
Read moreThe kind of place you would go out of your way to visit. We went with friends, on their revommendation, and when we arrived the restaurant was packed, with a really happy atmosphere. Staff were friendly from the outset, and very willing to be a bit flexible with meal choices for our young child. There are plenty of gluten-free options - not necessarily gluten-free versions, but just a good selection of GF options across the menu. Portions are huge, and we all struggled to finish. My char sui spring rolls were fresh, full of crunchy veg and the sauce was delicious. The galangal chicken was excellent - not what I expected in that the coconut wasn't the main flavour, but an absolutely gorgeous fragrant spice combination. You sometimes expect the vegetables with a meat dish to be a bit 'well done', but not in this case - they were cooked just long enough to bring out the flavour but retain the texture. My side of egg fried rice was similarly brilliant taste and texture-wise. Our young daughter picked off our plates, rather than getting her own entire meal (it works for us!) and this wasn't an issue for the staff - thank you! Since my wife is GF our daughter got a whole portion of what I think were potato flatbread/pancakes to herself and she loved them (and I think I can replicate them at home - happy days!). Visiting from Scotland we were delighted to join our Galway friends in one of their 'local joints' and when we visit again we'll be back. You are doing a...
