Extremely disappointing experience – ruined our evening

We had a very frustrating and disappointing dinner at the River Restaurant and Bar at the Strand Hotel. Our table was pre-booked for 7:00pm by the receptionist, and we arrived a few minutes early. Despite this, we were told there was an overbooking issue—but were assured it would be sorted. We were finally seated on time at 7:00pm.

Unfortunately, things only went downhill from there. Around 7:20pm, I asked the manager to at least bring out my child’s starter, which didn’t arrive until 7:30pm. Meanwhile, there was no sign of our own starters. Shockingly, at 8:20pm—1 hour and 20 minutes after we were seated—we still hadn’t been served. I had to ask the serving manager to bring his superior.

The senior manager eventually arrived, and while he apologised, he openly said he had “no words to explain” what had happened—something that only made our frustration worse. We had chosen this restaurant to enjoy a relaxing evening as a family, but instead were left feeling completely let down.

We finally received our starters after another 15 minutes, and dinner was served only after that. The manager did return to apologise again and kindly waived the bill, but by then, the damage was done. We didn’t come for a free meal—we came for a pleasant evening, and sadly, that was ruined.

Located inside Hotel Strand, The River Restaurant and Bar has probably the best selection of breakfast items. It is open for lunch, tea and dinner as well. A variety of hot and cold breakfast items comprise of scrambled eggs, sautéed mushrooms, potatoes, tomatoes, baked beans, sausages, bacon, fresh yogurt, cut fruits, flavored yogurt, fresh fruit such as oranges, apples and bananas, two types of smoothies, porridge, variety of toppings, dry cereals, milk, variety of breads, pancakes, waffles, croissants, muffins and fresh fruit juices. It has a coffee machine with variety of coffee drinks you can pour on your own as well as hot tea selections that you can make a pot of. The staff is very courteous and helpful. I like their coffee machine alot which has variety of drinks selection. The breakfast meal are the same every day but you definitely having a local full Irish breakfast which is a good experience for an Asian like me. Friendly and...
