Marble City Bar & Tea Rooms — Restaurant in The Municipal District of Kilkenny City

Please let me preface this with the fact that this is my first review. I have not felt the urge to review restaurants where I thought the food was below average. I am not a picky guy. I saw that this restaurant was touted above 4 stars so my girlfriend and I decided to give it a go. At first the service was standard, we received our food quickly as well. Please see the attached photos that show the food that we received. Please note that I ordered the 6 oz sirloin. I truly wish I had taken a photo prior to eating the cut of beef. The sirloin was under 6 oz, and did not have a single sear mark throughout. The entire thing was either grey or pink. As I said, I am not picky so I ate the steak sans the strip of fat on the side. To paint a picture, the entire color of the steak was the color of the attached photo of the fat strip. After eating the steak, I went to eat the salad, picking out a cherry tomato as the first bite. It tasted and had the texture as if it had been under a heat lamp for hours. Maybe this is how the steak was cooked? I did not continue to eat the rest of the salad. The chips and gravy admittedly were appetizing, which is why this gets a second star. Unfortunately, the table service was non-existent at this point and my glass of water was empty. Perhaps they were saving the water to boil the steak in? Im not too sure. Either way, we did not receive a water refill the entire 50 minute dinner. Onto the second meal, the pasta was so overcooked that they quite literally fell apart as they were picked up. See the attached photo of this. At this point we were ready to leave. What a Pub! MUST go visit! This place was totally unexpectedly fantastic!

We popped in for a nice lunch and found ourselves wanting to order everything on the menu. Let's just say - We almost did!

Let me share - Once sat down, we ordered, Arancini that were stuffed with amazing flavors! Highly suggest grabbing those if they are on the menu. We got an order of chips/fries. - they were delicious, hot, fresh and crispy! Continuing on with our culinary delight - One diner ordered the seafood chowder that was defined as a tasty bowl of goodness! Next up - Marble City healthy salad that had delicious roasted beets, quinoa, rocket, orange pear, roasted hazelnuts, pomegranate, feta & citrus vinegrette! We just can not help ourselves and we were obviously more hungry than we thought because then we ordered the Toasted special that was FULL I mean look at the photo proof of cheese, ham, tomatoes and onions! Guess what?! Yep, we are still ordering. We finished our ordered with the blacked spiced chicken Pitta! I know! - this place was just that amazing! The pitta was loaded with good tasty, chicken, baby gems and sun dried tomatoes, drizzled with - sweet chili mayo ohooo - just thinking about this makes me want to go back and eat it all again! The staff is great and the ambience is so enjoyable, very Irish Fab!

We wanted to get some tea before heading back into our visit of Kilkenny. We were greeted by a not so nice waiter, who told us to go to the counter. When we asked to get a table instead (the bar/restaurant was pretty much empty as it was 3:30pm), we were told "I'll move you if any customers come in to eat" in a very rude manner, and there were at least 5 tables empty so it was not needed (especially since we just came for coffee). Anyways, we sat down and were not provided with menu. The waiter asked us directly after seating us what we wanted... Without a menu, difficult to say! We asked for a menu, were told there isn't one, until I specified "even for coffee or tea?", after which the waiter reluctantly said that there was in fact one, and went to get it. At that point, we had enough of the rudeness and decided to leave. We still warned him we were leaving so he wouldn't walk back all the way to the table, and said "thanks, bye". He replied nothing back. Worst customer experience I had in Ireland, the staff are usually so nice, we were taken aback.
