We went there midday when coincidentally the place was empty, only free tables and one reserved one that the group hadn’t arrived yet. We were a group of 7 and generally it is hard to coordinate with hunger and thirst when you are such a big group. Either way, 5 of us had arrived and we had told them there were 2 more coming. We sat down and they came to order. We wanted 2 pizzas and 4 aperols as only two of us were hungry and the others just got a drink for the fun of it. They told us that was “too little” and that this is not possible. I understand that it’s not great to sit on a big table and not order much so I assured them we actually just want to sit for 30 minutes eat fast, drink fast and leave. They told us “it’s not possible” and told us TO LEAVE. All that, before the other two girls had even arrived to see what they would order and if we would still “unqualify” to sit on their tables. (Fun fact: the girls were hungry and would eat and drink!)
Can we also talk about the coperto?? Adding 2,5€-4€/person in every place we sat was a forced 15-30€ tip. They should be happy enough with that +our aperols and pizzas, for a 30min stop in their place.
Never in my life have I been “thrown out” and been “critisized” over how much I should eat or drink by a restaurant. Unfortunately, that is a behavior we felt more often in Italy(Although only La piazzetta takes the award for sending us out for it😂🥲) and we were deeply disappointed. All for the money. But maybe that’s because we come from Greece, where good food and warm hospitality go hand in hand whether it is for...
Read moreLast night, my husband and I had dinner at ristorante La Piazzetta in Amalfi. We decided to order different dishes to share. For starters, we had the Italian and rustic bruschetta. Unfortunately, the bread was almost cold and not very toasted. The cherry tomatoes were tasteless, as was the mozzarella, which was nowhere near as flavorful as the buffalo mozzarella typical of this region. For our main course, I had the Amalfi-style scialatielli with seafood. The scialatielli were good but very few, the mussels were small and bland, and the clams were okay. Overall, the sauce lacked the creaminess you would expect in a restaurant and was more like a broth in which the few scialatielli floated. My husband had fusilli with zucchini and a local cheese, the name of which I can't remember. The zucchini were indistinguishable, and the cheese was one big, shapeless mass. We stopped there and skipped dessert. The service was good, the staff spoke good English and were friendly. The tables are located in one of Amalfi's squares, which is very beautiful but also very crowded with tourists. The price is practically the same as all the other restaurants in the center of Amalfi, but I have eaten better, for the same price, at Taverna di Masaniello, which is 20...
Read moreInhumane service I was visiting the beautiful Amalfi coast with my mom, a 72 years old mobility reduced lady. We were looking for a restaurant very close to the parking lot, since she cannot walk for too long nor too fast. We found this restaurant in a break from the bus tour and decided to eat there. She asked them if she could use the restroom, which she urgently needed to do. They repeatedly asked if we were going to have lunch there, which we confirmed. When we get out of the toilet and are close to getting to a 2 person table in between 2 other tables which were occupied (again, walking is very difficult for my mom) the waiter starting shouting "no, no, reserved". The one table table in the middle is reserved? I point to the completely empty row of tables behind us and he said "reserved, reserved" and started rumbling something in Italian to another person. We had to actually leave the restaurant, where by the way the rest of the group was eating, and look for another restaurant. Disability and all.
It is a shame that in a region known for its heart we had to experience such carelessness. Having a disability is not easy nor fun. Add age to the mix, it gets even more...
