After a long, scorching day in Amalfi, we made the mistake of choosing Taverna Buonvicino for a much-needed meal. Unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the most unpleasant dining experiences we've had—not just in Italy, but anywhere.

My husband wasn’t feeling well from the heat, so he only ordered a small appetiser while I ordered a cod main. Right from the start, the waiter seemed visibly disappointed with our modest order, treating us with unnecessary arrogance. When I politely requested for our meals to be served together, he replied sarcastically and condescendingly, "Of course, we want you to eat together" and thanked me for the suggestion—dripping with snark and attitude. Completely uncalled for.

Moments later, another staff member silently dropped a brown paper bag of bread on our table without a word. No warmth, no welcome—just cold, dismissive service from the start.

But the worst was yet to come. When my cod dish arrived, I noticed the fish was overly salty. As I ate a few bites, I then spotted tiny black bugs in the salad on my plate. I informed the waiter, who first denied it and then reluctantly took it back to the kitchen. He returned with the same piece of fish, now placed on a “new” bed of salad—but when I inspected it, there was a tiny worm moving in the greens. Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable!

We left immediately. I wouldn’t risk another bite. I can understand that bugs can occasionally end up in food by mistake, but re-serving the same fish on another salad without thoroughly checking it—only to find a live worm—is not just careless, it's reckless.

I now noticed that this isn’t just a one-off issue. Other reviews have highlighted the arrogant attitude, over-salted food, and even cases of food poisoning. It’s clear there’s a pattern, and management is either unaware—or worse—doesn’t care.

Here’s a reminder to the owners: your business relies on tourists, and we talk. If you continue to treat guests with disdain unless they’re spending hundreds of euros, and serve food that is clearly unhygienic and unsafe, you will lose the very people keeping your doors open.

Avoid this place. There are many other beautiful, welcoming restaurants in Amalfi that deserve your time and money far more...

I recently dined at Taverna Buonvicini and left with the impression that this type of establishment is unfortunately quite common in certain tourist areas of Italy. Despite the white tablecloths and seemingly upscale ambiance, the experience was far from satisfactory.

Firstly, the service was notably arrogant, which set a negative tone from the start. For a restaurant presenting itself as high-end, the staff's attitude was off-putting and unwelcoming.

The food, unfortunately, did not justify the high prices. We shared one starter and had two mains, with a single beer, and our bill came to 76 euros. Portions were small and the quality was mediocre at best. Adding to the disappointment, we were charged 3 euros for tap water served in a bottle and a 3 euro cover charge, which included no bread and just one wet napkin each.

Additionally, the waiting time was excessively long, further diminishing our dining experience.

As for the facilities, I expected more from a restaurant of this supposed caliber. The bathroom lacked toilet seats, and the mirror was broken. I've seen better-maintained facilities at fast food establishments like McDonald's.

Overall, Taverna Buonvicino fell short in many areas. The high prices, poor service, and subpar food quality do not align with the expectations set by its appearance. I would not recommend this restaurant and suggest looking elsewhere for a more satisfying...

During our recent visit to Amalfi, my wife and I had the pleasure of dining at Taverna Buonvicino, and it was an experience that exceeded our expectations in every aspect.

From the moment we stepped through the door, we were warmly welcomed by the host, whose genuine hospitality set the tone for the evening. The atmosphere was inviting and cozy, perfectly tucked away from the busy part of the town.

The wait staff was just perfect. And wine recommendation in point!

As for the food, it was nothing short of exceptional. Each dish was bursting with flavor, every bite was a delight to the senses.

So impressed were we with our dining experience that we decided to return the next day, eager to savor more of the culinary delights. Once again, we were met with the same warm welcome and attentive service, reaffirming our belief that this establishment truly excels in every aspect.

Taverna Buonvicino is a must-visit dining destination in Amalfi for anyone seeking an unforgettable culinary journey. With its great host, attentive wait staff, and delicious food, it has undoubtedly earned its place as one of our favorite restaurants in the region.

So full disclosure, I was so impressed by the whole experience, from service to the general knowledge of ingredients to wine selections and the quality of the plates. I ate here three nights in a row and will do it all again if and when I come back. The house specialty, the pasta in an anchovy and lemon sauce with roasted hazelnuts was phenomenal. It have never had anything like it and I doubt I will ever again. It’s that special. The lobster linguine was a bit fussy since you have to dig for the lobster meat out of the legs and joint, but that was on me. The seared tuna, delicious. The steak that they had on special, even better. Pasta scialatielli with seafood was loaded with mussels, clams, shrimp, and squid. The stuffed squash flowers, best bite that I’ve had in Italy. Also, THE AMBIANCE WAS CRAZY. Last night there was a service in the tiny church and you could hear the congregation singing. Just amazing.

Ivo recommended we come here for lunch while visiting Amalfi and he was absolutely correct! Ariana and our waiter (I'm so sorry, I wish I caught his name) took great care of us and were so friendly and attentive. It is tucked away on side roads away from the noisy bustling crowds of tourists, making for a perfectly quiet meal. For an appetizer, my wife and I shared the special of the day, which was a fresh bowl of mussels with a delicious broth of cherry tomatoes and capers. For my main course I had their hand made ravioli stuffed with ricotta and basil served in a tomato basil sauce. The ravioli was perfect and the sauce was so good I finished every last drop with the table bread. My wife had the grilled cod for her main. The cod was flaky and juicy and she was obsessed with the peppers served with it! If you come to Amalfi, you'd miss out if you didn't come here for lunch or dinner

The most authentic Italian spot in Amalfi. Be prepared to be amazed by the wonderful service and food that will leave an ever lasting memory that you will want to relive. The experience we had is one of the best we have had not only because of the wonderfully prepared dishes but mostly because of the staff. Paolo made us feel like we were eating with family. Every dish prepared and presented as though it was a work of art. After our initial experience we easily decided to return for our anniversary dinner. Our new family decided that our anniversary was just as important to them. They put together the most romantic evening which included champagne, roses, candles, anniversary cake and of course a wonderful menu. Our night was highlighted by an unexpected piano performance by one of the owners (Gaetano). So much romance in the air. Thank you for an amazing night. WE WILL RETURN!
