Muto - Cafè Bistrot — Restaurant in Bari

New bar in town, prime location, witty name. Expectations were very high.

Hence, the more painful the disappointment!

For an exorbitant price (€44 for 2 spritzes and snacks), even by the high standards of the area, we were struck by the dismal quality of the food. We were also negatively impressed by comparison between the official prices we saw in the menu and the prices we were charged for "adding some standard snacks to our drink" (see pictures for bill and QR code with menu and official prices).

The above-mentioned, disappointing snacks included seven small items, common for the local "aperitivo" (1 of each: panzerottino, sgagliozza, small croissant, fish croquette, fried shrimp, tomato-mozza brochette, fish sandwich). Unfortunately, only the fish croquette and sandwich were adequate in quality - the rest was seriously below minimal quality standards in Bari.

I'm trying hard not to see it as a "tourist trap", and maybe it was conceived as an honest attempt at proposing a luxury experience in a prime location. However, the lack of transparency on prices, the low quality of 5 products tried out of 7, and the correspondingly unjustified price range do not allow me to recommend this place in its...

I am writing to express my disappointment with the service we experienced during our recent visit to your establishment.

We sat down with our children, but despite waiting, no one came to take our order for an extended period. With young children who were hungry, I decided to offer my 2-year-old daughter something from our bag. At that moment, a waiter approached our table, not to take our order, but to complain about the food from outside. It was evident that the food was intended only for our child, yet the waiter’s tone and demeanor were rude and unprofessional.

After finally placing our order, we waited an additional 30 minutes for the chips we requested. Unfortunately, these were brought to our table as we were about to leave, and despite the delay, they were still included in the bill.

This experience left us feeling dissatisfied and unwelcome. While we understand the importance of policies regarding outside food, we believe situations involving young children should be handled with understanding and courtesy.

We hope you will take this feedback into account to improve your service and ensure a more positive experience for families...

I seriously felt robbed! More than 20€ for a bad drink in a plastic glass and a little platter of cold, cheap, barely edible snacks - when I was just looking for, and advertised, something quick and easy! I was shocked because the price was not written anywhere, not communicated in advance and not in line with the visible prices on the menu (is it even legal? Aren't there laws against such commercial practices?). In the end, the experience poisoned my entire perception of the city and for the rest of the holidays I didn't feel I could trust the other shops in Bari - and had to check reviews and ask to confirm prices before any other purchase. I'm just surprised that nobody checks to prevent this type of abuse, as they really hurt the perception of the entire territory, especially for visitors spending only a few days in the region. Fortunately, the rest of my stay was less "eventful" and I realised I had just been unlucky, but other potential customers...
