Caffè Vergnano 1882 — Restaurant in Bari

Rude staff, bad communication, overpriced juices and a service charge of one euro per person even if they get your order wrong and you don't end up having a drink.

Being in Italy, I don't expect clear communication when I don't speak the country's language but to blatently walk away multiple times, while mid conversation about an issue with a customer, is just rude. I shouldn't have to chase up my problem with several members of staff, several times each, for anyone to take notice.

It wasn't clearly explained that they were having a technical problem with hot drinks when the waitress was taking our order. This ended in being brought the wrong drink and then being told we would still have to pay for it. After speaking to a manger eventually they removed the drink form our bill but refused to remove the 2 euro service charge dispite the mistake.

Overally with the combination of rude staff and making us pay for the mistake, it was a unpleasant experience which left us feeling uncomfortable...

DISHONEST BUSINESS ALERT 9 euro bill, 2 of which is for service - are you kidding me?? I ordered 1 item for myself and the waitress didn't even talk to my guest. How can you charge service for 2 people if the 2nd person didn't order anything and you did not even interact nor offer any cutleries to this person? You cannot say we occuppied additional slots, since your tables are for 4 people. When I disputed the price, the cashier said this is standart in Italy - that if a person is sitting at the table, then is in the bill. Then why did you print out our summary right after my order as if its final and we won't be ordering more?? If what you mean by standart is dishonesty, then yeah businesses like you do a good advertisement of your country. Up the same street, a shadier looking place with no English speaking personnel did not charge us any service. They get our 5 stars, you get 1.
