The hotel is located at 100m from the ferry terminal and 300m from the bus stop to Como.
Upon arrival you first have to enter through the restaurant located at the ground floor. If you come in the afternoon or evening, you need to awkwardly pass along all tables first. There is no reception, only a bar with a cash register, located right in the middle of the restaurant. There is no permanent reception staff and it's very difficult to find staff to help you, as most are only working in the restaurant.
Once you get a key, you can also enter through the side entrance. This avoids the restaurant guests but you still need to pass the kitchen and beware of the staff running around with their plates of food. When the restaurant is closed, there is no staff and no service at all.
Rooms are on the second and third floor. There is no elevator and it is not wheelchair accessible. When taking your luggage upstairs, you need to pass a very narrow door, which hardly fit our bags. This door was closed at first and the lady at the check-in did not assist us. We had to clumsily hold our bags while trying to open it.
We first couldn't enter the room because the lock was jammed. They use traditional keys and the locks are worn and difficult to open. Once inside, the bedroom and bed are spacious. Unfortunately the lights near the bed were a different colour each (blue and orange). There's only one power socket near the bed and it's reserved for the lights. So if you want to charge your phone, you need to unplug the light first. Same problem for the television and the electric kettle: only one power socket. Also, when using the TV, we saw they lost the original Philips remote and were using a cheap Chinese clone of which most buttons didn't work.
There are multiple holes in the wood throughout the room. The baseboards are coming apart and have dirt between them. There is no safe, minibar or air conditioner. The only way to cool the room is a mobile cooling unit. The sound isolation is really bad: you can hear loud restaurant noises until midnight(!), there's a noisy kebab place outside and your neighbours hear your every move. Earplugs are highly recommended; you cannot sleep without them.
The bathroom has a very small shower cabin and we often hit our arms while washing, resulting in a loud bang for our neighbours. No place to put your shampoo. There was mold growing on the metal near the tray and the screws were rusted. The sink had dirty permanent spots. There was paint coming off the walls in multiple spots. The shower doors were jammed and were very difficult to close. My partner accidentally pulled the rope in the shower, intended only for emergencies, but no staff ever came to help us. We are worried about the people who will actually need help one day.
Cleaning staff took away our towels but didn't replace them. This happened two days in a row, until we ran out of towels and had to manually request new ones. Even though we'd hung a Do Not Disturb sign, cleaning staff still knocked at our door at 10am, asking to clean. There were no trash cans in the room.
Breakfast selection is small and always the same: tea, coffee or juice, some fruit, jam, ham, cheese, eggs and three kinds of cereals (packed in cardboard and plastic, not environment friendly). They do bring fresh bread and croissants. Our first morning, we didn't know where to sit so we asked an older lady (the only person working there in the morning). She didn't speak English. In fact, she didn't speak to us at all, and got audibly irritated with every question we asked her. One morning she just stared at us for ten seconds without uttering a word, expecting us to tell her something (turned out she wanted to know if we needed coffee or tea). Extremely unfriendly behaviour. We felt discriminated because we weren't Italian.
Hotel Suisse is first and foremost a restaurant, and its "ho(s)tel" is just an afterthought. They have no service, no cleanliness and it is no place for anyone, let alone a couple looking for a romantic adventure...
Read moreMe and my girlfriend came from Switzerland, we arrived I veranna via train in the evening. We went by boat to Bellagio.
We came of season, in January, a sunday. Most of Bellagio was closed. We booked hotel the same day, only one was open in Bellagio, this was also the cheapest in the area, therefore we picked suisse hotel for to nights, 195euro for to nights.
Then it started. Arrival: first night
Hard to find the "reception". Its located inside the restaurant, which was empty, only a little group of people sat there, including the "manager".
We got the key to our first room. The room was not ready. Bread all over on the nightshelf, TV was on. Its was dirty.
I went down and complained. Now I got key to a second room on the same floor.
This time it was blood on the sheet. I told the "manager". This time she gave us key to the room on the top floor("suite"), and told us that we are the only one staying at the hotel. The third time the room, suite, was acceptable.
Second night: Woke up to this beautiful view of lake Como. We got breakfast included, nothing to boast about. Dry bread and cornflakes in bags. Went out and explored the area.
We came home after a dinner out, about 9 o'clock evening. In the room next door they were renovating. A lot of talk, laughter and noise. I called down to this "manager". She then answered me,
《what do you expect of our one star hotel, you complained yesterday too.》.
She said more, real rude woman. I think she was just a replacement for the real manager, because it was of season.
We woke up this morning 6.30, they started renovating early, a lot of noise. .
The hotel is bad. You can hear everything between the walls of the rooms, bad management. This is not a recommendable hotel. Stay away.
I tried to get a discount, explained to this girl that worked there when we where doing the check out, explained the negative experience we had, nothing she could do. She called this "manager", she was a sleep, could not be there before 12 noon because she had to sleep. I talked to the "manager" on the phone, we where not happy with the stay, again nothing too do with that, I had to pay the full amount.
DONT STAY AT...
