Horrible experience at La Golleta. I left with a bloody foot. The service at this restaurant left me shocked. A table broke a glass next to us, and the management did not handle it appropriately and it lead to an injury. Even though my foot was heavily bleeding due to them not handling the situation appropriately, they did not care and didn’t even apologize. They told me it was due to the restaurant being too busy and that they didn’t have enough staff. When they brought the bill, they did not even offer us a coffee as a courtesy. The manager was rude, unprofessional, and lacked empathy. On top of that, the food was decent. It was the most terrible experience I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Please, save your money and give business to any other place in the area.
I was going to book the hotel that it’s located in and chose to give my business instead to Hotel Belvedere due to this incident. I do not recommend anyone coming to this restaurant.
Edit: the management just responded and completely lied regarding the experience. The staff did not clean up any of the glass, and they did not offer me anything. I had to ask for the manager and demand it. They were instead trying to quickly rush us out. After I asked for the manager, they came back after that with 20% off, and I asked them to please reconsider regarding the entire experience. After a long battle, they gave us 50% off. I would never expect any meal to be fully compensated but was shocked that again, they did not even offer me a coffee or an apology. Not only did they do this, now they are proceeding to be dishonest. Horrible restaurant. PLEASE DO...
Read moreOverall, the service was the highlight with professional and attentive wait staff.
The food was just ok, with relatively basic flavours and ingredients combined well. The disappointment here is that at the more premium end of pricing for a plate, you expect more exciting/interesting flavours and use of better ingredients and cooking techniques. The portion sizes are also on the small side, with a main coming up more like the size of a starter.
The atmosphere is a bit stiff. Some may prefer this but I've come to enjoy a more laid back atmosphere when enjoying food, however this stifness appears to be in keeping with the town of Bellagio, so maybe one to avoid if you're similar to myself in this matter.
The wine choices were good, however the cappuccino at the end was quite sub-par. I've found that even the cheap, back street cafés in Italy at 1/4 the price of this cappuccino offer a smooth, velvety, and well extracted cup. Here you can find the milk to be relatively well steamed, but an espresso taste that comes from under extraction, such as the astringent acidity that comes with it. I would suggest that the staff should adjust the grind and check the flow rates from the machine more often to provide an experience more fitting of a €6 cup, something simple to do but often overlooked - just a shame to see in a more up market place.
TLDR: I suspect you could have a more enjoyable experience somewhere else in Bellagio, or even find a nicer/quieter town around the...
Read moreWe dined at this “fine dine restaurant” at the Villa Serbelloni expecting it to blow our minds. To our dismay, the food was well below average and the price far above. To start with, we ordered a fish tartare which was fine and the drinks (very avg negroni). The disappointment came in when we requested the waiter to order vegetarian dishes. They had nothing vegetarian except for a measly “gourmet onion”. Paying 35-30€ for an onion appetiser felt criminal but well we had no options . For the mains, they waited confirmed he would serve us pesto pasta. I was expecting a top notch pesto doused in fresh flavours and nutty flavours but the it turned out to be quite the opposite- bland, underwhelming and an absolute disaster. How an an Italian fine dine ruin pesto is beyond me. It was so bad that I’ve had better pesto at take away late night fast food joints costing a fraction of this price.
What surprised me even more is when we gave this feedback to the waiter and he was indifferent!
The views are overrated and the drinks are average at best. If you want to experience fine dine with a beautiful view of lake como, I suggest booking a meal at Albori at Belvedere. We went there for lunch and while the food was not outstanding, the service was fantastic (what you’d expect from a fine dine), views were spectacular and the drinks were the best thing...
