Hellweger's — Restaurant in Burggrafenamt - Burgraviato

Ordered the caesar salad. Dressing was not bad from a North American flavour expectation. It lacked anchovies, but it's Europe. The lettuce was iceberg and should have been romaine. Grilled chicken was perfectly seasoned, pressed and seared to perfection. Unfortunately, I found a long black hair in my food. The service was excellent until I mentioned the hair. The waitress did not apologize when I explained the situation. Instead she said no one here has long black hair implying that I had put it there. I have black hair and had a haircut 5 days ago so it is very short. I said it obviously can't be my hair. Not the best response. Plus I've been invited to lunch and I am not paying. They were going to make me a new Caesar salad but at this point I have lost my appetite and told her I don't want it. Only at this point does she say sorry. Again, it's Europe so the level of service is not the same as in North America but that does not mean you imply it's my fault that you served me a dish with something that should be in there. We had an unfortunate experience during dinner tonight that left us no choice but to pay and leave the restaurant halfway through our meal. We received a pizza that had long black hairs in it, which, while unpleasant, is something that can happen. However, it was the reaction of the waiters that shocked us.

First, the waitress arrogantly denied that it was a hair and tried to convince us that it was something from the meat. She then took the pizza away and quickly removed the hair from the table. Her coworker took over and explained that their chef wears a hair net and that his hair wasn’t black. By this point, we felt so poorly treated that we decided to leave after finishing a mediocre pasta dish.

Overall, it was an extremely disappointing experience that we cannot recommend. It left us confused and humiliated and we’ve now found another place for dinner. Luckily there’s plenty of good places...

We just loved this place- so much that we returned a second night during our three-night stay in Merano. The people here really know what they are doing- arrivals are greeted quickly, the courtyard ambiance is both cozy and airy, service is professional and kind, the food arrives promptly and was nicely presented and flavorful. Tables are efficiently cleared and new guests welcomed. Highly recommend - try to get reservations by emailing. Update: returned two years later and found this much as before- same people, elegant courtyard, prettily- composed food. A stylish modern...
