Today, my family and I had lunch at Giuliani Restaurant. We ordered two plates of Polpo, Gamberi e Calamari, along with a pizza and a chicken burger. The setting was truly beautiful, the service was quick, and the food was delicious overall.
However, we noticed that the calamari dish was served steamed or boiled rather than fried, which is how we personally prefer it. We tasted one of the two plates and didn’t enjoy the steamed version, so we politely asked the waiter if we could replace the second plate with a fried version.
The waiter took the plate, but moments later, another staff member (who I believe was Moroccan, as he spoke Arabic) returned and spoke to us in a very sharp and unwelcoming tone, saying the dish could not be replaced. Unfortunately, this attitude didn’t match the otherwise pleasant ambiance.
I replied kindly, saying it was fine we came to enjoy our time, not to argue—and we continued with the rest of our meal. A few minutes later, the same staff member returned and asked again if we would still like to replace the dish. I said yes, and he brought us a properly fried version, which we appreciated.
In the end, the experience was generally good. The prices are a bit on the high side, but they are justified by the quality of the food, the beautiful location, and the overall atmosphere. That said, the attitude of one staff member could have ruined the experience—and we believe such behavior doesn’t reflect the otherwise excellent standard of...
Read moreTourist trap - but we knew they going in. It is an excellent place to sit and have a drink / have food and enjoy the view of the lake and mountains. however, the beer served was the flattest I have ever had and while you’re paying for draught beer you’re probably getting old and /or bottled beer. Tried their snacks that are served with drinks, the olive oil soaked bread was at least 3 days old! Didn’t feel like could try their crisps or olives. Service is also pretty horrible - they’re nice to you until you sit down. Once you’re sat, good luck if anything isn’t to your liking, you either pay extra or sit there quietly. Avoid if you can, plenty of nice places around - albeit...
Read moreYes it’s a touristy restaurant. However, the folks who work here are legit. They’re wonderful and friendly and will give you the scoop about Como. They’ll also hard sell you about a boat tour around Como. We figured “F it”, let’s do it. It sounds like a scam but it’s real. The boat they put you on is fantastic and fun. So, if you’ve failed to plan ahead (ahem, like me), then this is a great place to get a drink and figure out your next steps. The boat is €285/hour (discounts for longer time periods). Overall, we loved our stay here, it ended up being a perfect gateway to an ideal day trip in Como. Thank you Bar Giuliani, you were wonderful! We will...
