We ate there yesterday and on entering the place, the room smelled of fish. This is not normal in a sea food restaurant as the seating area normally has good ventilation. We ordered a cold starter and warm starter which came and I thought there was really no skill in making both dishes. Just cold sea food and a hot steamed fish. Not expected that it would be like this in a high end restaurant in Florence. We were told that we needed two portions of our main course to share which we ordered. It was a baked fish dish made with very little creativity and the portion was small to be sharing between two people. Overall the sea good was fresh but no creativity in preparing the dishes.
The head waiter saw that we were not happy so he served us some extra small portions which was considerate of him. I am not sure if he charged is for it or not. He also gave us some money lemon sorbet at the end which we are not sure if we are charged for. You will find out in the end why I say this.
When we asked for the bill he said please pay at the counter. On going to the counter he said your bill is 128 Euro when and he gave a discount of 8 Euro. I asked for the invoice he said you need to pay first. I paid it when he gave me the bill it had no detail on it just 120 Euro which I saw in the taxi. I found this method of billing very strange to not to provide details of what I was billed for.
In convulsion I would not go here again as there are a lot of better places in Florence...
Read moreWe had a wonderful dining experience at Fuor D'Acqua on our first night in Florence! After an evening stroll, we came upon this restaurant late in the evening and sat down after 9pm. For the next 4 hours, my wife and I had one of the most memorable meals in our 42 years together!
We selected the fixed price menu for two and a nice bottle of chardonnay. My wife explained her crustacean allergy, which the restaurant completely understood - oftentimes, the server and even the chef do not understand.
Based on her allergy, the chef will avoid those items for her by creating new, off the menu selections while I would receive the typical tasting menu. We proceeded to taste more than eight separate and delicious selections of seafood - I had mine and tasted the special courses prepared for my wife as necessary to avoid her allergy.
The pace often slowed to a crawl as we lingered, so allow for digestion. Our server was wonderful and brought us an additional course of frothy lemon sorbetto to buy some time. At one point, he commented, "Take your time, i will be here until 2AM."
We eventually made it through and enjoyed our dessert with some coffee. We left after 1:30AM for a 15 min stroll to our accommodations, completely satisfied, knowing we will be talking about this meal for years to...
Read moreWe went for dinner here 4 days ago based on a few recommendations for the seafood dishes Fuor D'Acqua serve. We have dined in many restaurants but I must say that this is the very first time that our experience was so bad that we left without eating anything. Our table was booked for 2030 and we had promptly ordered our starters, and main course. Other customers came after us and were served their meals before us; we were still waiting. We were given a basket of bread, and nothing else. We decided to leave after waiting an hour. The manager, came out of the restaurant into the street to apologise for the terrible service we experienced and asked us to come back inside. Unfortunately, we decided by that point, that we were not going to stay any longer. The manager acknowledged that the waiter who was serving us did not do his job correctly. What puzzled us is that the waiter serving us was very helpful towards the local customers. It was evident that we were not local/Italian customers, thus we didn't matter, or not a priority at all. This was a truly bad experience and one we do not wish upon anyone. One star for food because we didn't get to eat anything and one star for service clearly. The atmosphere is probably better for others but it...
