Place seems okay, but when I asked if they had a particular dish our server (a girl) said yes we make it all the time, it's just not on the menu. I asked the price. She said she didn't know and left it at that. Okay, I guess she didn't want to go find out. So I ordered the boar meat pasta. Instead of the pasta being loose and ragu throughout, the pasta came out stuck together with the ragu on top. I had to use a knife to cut through it. I also asked for a small bit of butter and the other server (young man) said that's an insult here in Italy we don't serve butter, just oil. Which isn't true, as I have traveled everywhere in Italy, and I live here as well. Never an issue to ask for butter. I wish he would've just said they didn't have any then to make that up. It wouldn't be hard to verify a price of a dish and go to the kitchen and get a few grams of butter. Lastly, they charge you for bottled water that is from the tap. Our server confirmed it was tap water. Dinner was just okay. There are way too many other places to eat than waste your time at this restaurant. We'll be back in town in a couple of weeks. We won't be eating here. Our older...
Read moreThis was a 5-minute walk from our place. We had just arrived after a full, 12-hour day of traveling and wanted a relaxed spot for a late dinner. We ordered two giant steins of cold German beer, grilled octopus, a hare ragu pasta, and the quattro stagioni pizza. We surprised ourselves by finishing almost all of it! Our table was at the outer edge of the patio and a great spot for people watching. The servers were patient and attentive especially given they were closing down for the night shortly after we arrived. The octopus was grilled perfectly-crispy at the tips and tender and juicy at the fat end, not chewy at all. The hare ragu pasta was good but not a standout dish. This was the first pizza I've had in Italy and it was among the best I've had ever in my life. I don't know if I would come to Florence again specifically for this restaurant, but it was perfect for our evening and didn't disappoint. Very easy...
Read moreI had an excellent early lunch here. I sat outside though it’s cold and damp in December, but the overhead heating was just right. A lovely Negroni to start, then home-made thicker spaghetti alla carettiera with a Chianti Classico. A carettiere is a wagon-driver, a truck driver, so he likes it spicy, but not flamboyantly. I then had a mixed salad —that means tomatoes too and they were remarkably good for this time of year. Restaurants here expect you to mix your own salad dressing, but I categorically refuse. I tell them they have to do it: I’m not Italian, and that seems to be a winning argument every time. You’re welcome to use it as well. How was it, the waitress asked? Excellent carettiera and the best mixed salad up to now (“finora in Italia”). Well, she said, the deep-dish apple pie was also the best in Italy. I had it, and...
