I visit Florence annually with a group of students, and we always find a place to do a big Florentine steak dinner. This year we had the pleasure of stumbling upon La Carbonata Del Porrati. The ambiance inside was a bit unique, but any hesitations were dispelled when our waiter, Andrea, approached. He was friendly, attentive, made great recommendations, and spoke excellent English. I can't say enough good things about him; he really made our night. Antonio and Abdul were helping out and cooked up some great pasta, sides, and steak. Things were well-seasoned, the bread was salted(!), the wine list was great and affordable, and there was pride in everything they did. I'm a big fan of this place, the food, and especially the people. We'll be back next year!

We were recommended Antonio's place by a local friend who advised us the woodfire cooked Florentine steaks were the best in Florence. She was not wrong. Don't be feceived by the simple decor - the boar ragu (to share for starter) and the 1.2kg T bone was out of this world. Very succulent, smoky and tender and the sides of beans and roast potatoes were gorgeous. The best steak we have ever tasted. Our waiter made a special effort to show us our steak before it was cooked and and had a brilliant dry humour. We met Antonio towards the end of our visit and he was so warm and appreciative of our custom. In truth, they and the food made the visit a real highlight in our trip to Florence and we will be telling everyone how brilliant and delicious it was.

Certamente io ci ritorno volentieri ... (mmmmm buone le pizze maialona e tropea)....gnam gnam. Andate in prima serata è il...

The best, authentic pizza and pasta we had in Florence was here. It was so nice that we came two times. Everything we tried from appetizers to desserts was amazing. The waitstaff and chef were friendly, incredibly welcoming, and accommodating (when we first came hungry and awaiting check-in at our airbnb, we even had our two suitcases). The chef took the time to come out of the kitchen and watch our reactions to eating our ordered food (the sweetest). In the front end, they have a clear display case counter with pastries for the earlier hours and meat. It would be easy to grab a cappucino and pastry in the morning, and then even eat late lunch/dinner later in the day. From a tourist perspective, it was nice to see locals leisurely eating and enjoying meals, having gatherings here: "a watering hole" for members of the community. It would be easy from the outside to overlook this place, but it is a true, authentic gem that has character and I think tons of other people are missing out on. If we ever return to Florence, we will be sure to return and will recommend it to all of our friends...

Don’t miss out on this place. In a city where life seems to move overwhelmingly fast, my new fiancé and I found this unassuming restaurant where we were able to slow things down and get a terrific last night in Florence! During our visit, we had an opportunity to try multiple dishes with the standout being bistec a la Florentine. This steak was cooked to perfection by Abdulla who periodically and humbly poked out to make sure that the meal was up to par always with a smile on his face. The waiters are diligent and were excellent about providing insight into the dishes. Amazingly, we had the pleasure of meeting who I assume is the owner (hope your shoulder recovers well!) who filled us in on the aging of the steak which was a treat to try. When we were done, my fiancé and I were full and happy. It is clear that they take pride in what they do and have given us such a charming memory. Thank you for the experience, we hope to be back the next time we...
