Maybe my expectations were too high or we visited at a bad time, but I didn't enjoy Sgrano as much as I was hoping. We were both impressed by the quality of the gluten free pasta (especially my non-GF partner) and it is amazing as a coeliac to have this many options - plus I will say the sandwiches from their location around the corner are phenomenal - but I didn't particularly enjoy my meal overall. The wait staff were all very nice but service was definitely lacking slightly; we weren't asked if we had any allergies which I thought was a faux pas for such a highly regarded GF restaurant, nor were we checked on during the meal, and it took a really long time for us to get water for the table. To be picky, my dish wasn't hot when it arrived and the pasta was slightly overcooked. However, the portion sizes were great (especially the starter which we couldn't finish!) and the bill was very reasonable. A fantastic option if you're a coeliac in Florence and don't want to risk cross contamination, but I have had better gluten free pasta elsewhere...

Long review: We had a bad experience here. Our order was not entered properly, and it took over an hour for it to arrive. A neighbouring table showed up 20 minutes after us, and they were having desert as our bread arrived. When our order did arrive, two of our orders were incorrect. So we waited another half hour for those to show up. It got so long that I had to take my daughter with Down’s syndrome to another restaurant next door for food.
My review of the food is that it was good, not great. Our other daughter who is celiac and used to gluten free dishes rated the gluten free offerings as so-so. She called it the worst restaurant on our trip. Mostly due to the mistakes made by the staff.
The most frustrating part of the experience was that the staff didn’t really make any effort to make up for their comedy of...
Read moreWe chose Osteria dello Sgrano Glutenfree for our last dinner in Florence because our experience at Sgrano (Sandwicheria) had been outstanding—from the service to the food. Unfortunately, the osteria did not live up to the same standard.
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with little enthusiasm. The atmosphere was cold—both in terms of ambiance and actual temperature, as there was an unpleasant draft. We weren’t even allowed to choose a warmer table in the corner, despite the fact that nothing was reserved and we were the only guests. The staff was unfriendly and showed little understanding, which made us feel unwelcome.
Disappointed, we simply paid for our water and left. This was a frustrating contrast to Sgrano, which had been exceptional in every way. Quality gluten-free restaurants are so important, and we truly hoped for a better experience here. Sadly,...
