🥩 Trattoria Dall’Oste – A Must-Try Steakhouse in Florence 🇮🇹🔥
If you’re in Florence and looking for an authentic Tuscan steak experience, Trattoria Dall’Oste is absolutely the place to go. The food here is high-quality, reasonably priced, and full of bold, rustic flavors that showcase the best of the region.
🍖 The Steak (Bistecca alla Fiorentina): Let’s start with the star of the show – the Florentine T-bone steak. Cooked to perfection, beautifully seared outside and juicy inside, this was easily one of the best steaks I’ve had in Italy. The portion was generous, the meat flavorful, and it came with just a touch of olive oil to highlight the natural taste – simple, traditional, and perfect.
🍝 Pasta with Wild Boar Sauce (Pappardelle al Cinghiale): I also tried their pasta dish with wild boar ragù, and it was a very unique and earthy experience. The sauce was rich, tender, and slow-cooked, with a slight gamey flavor that really sets it apart from typical meat sauces. A great option if you’re feeling adventurous and want to try something deeply regional.
🧑🍳 Service: The staff were extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful – happy to explain the menu, suggest wine pairings, and make sure everyone felt taken care of. Despite being busy, the service was prompt and warm throughout the meal.
💶 Pricing: Given the quality of the food and the size of the portions, the price is very reasonable. It’s not cheap – but for authentic Florentine steak, it’s excellent value for money compared to many touristy spots around town.
🍷 Atmosphere: The restaurant has a traditional, cozy interior with a welcoming vibe. You can tell it’s popular with both tourists and locals – and with good reason.
✅ Overall: Trattoria Dall’Oste is a top-notch spot for steak lovers and anyone who wants to explore bold Tuscan flavors. Between the incredible steak, the unique wild boar pasta, and the genuine service, this was one of the culinary highlights of my trip to Florence. Highly recommended – especially if it’s your first time trying Bistecca...

Bistecca using chianina beef has been on my bucket list for a while and I will recommend Dall 'Oste with a large caveat at the end.
We were three and decided to go at lunch on 07/29/2025. We ordered the menu bistecca which included the antipasti, the famed beef and a choice of a salata or roasted potatoes. My wife and daughter ordered a spritzer and I had a half bottle of Chianti Reserva with the beef.
Staff were pleasant and low key which suited the mood perfectly. The antipasti were excellent consisting of high quality prosciutto, cheese, a crostini with a warm chicken liver pate, and bruschetta
The real strength of the meal was the T bone. Seared and then finished rare, it was presented on a plancha or cast iron plate, with a sprinkling of coarse salt on top. It was cooked perfectly and delicious to the last bite.
After the main, we had no room left for dessert and requested the bill. I received the bill at the front which came to 225.52 euro. Not unreasonable.
I paid by card and was prompted if I would like to tip 10/15/20%. Again since it was an enjoyable experience I tipped 15%, not common in Italy but we thoroughly enjoyed it. The bill was processed and after leaving and getting our bearings (please don't bother to comment I should have looked at it right away. I prefer to think that not everyone on the planet is greed driven), I noticed they had already included a 10% coperto (cover charge) x 3 or 12.90. On top of that I tipped 29.42. Which yes, you guessed it, would have included the original cover charge.
Is it a question of money? No, not really, I'm happy to pay for a memorable eating experience.
Low class and contrary to the image I'm sure they want to project.
So while it would be easy to simply trash the whole place in a review, it would be unfair as the only thing was the bitter taste at a low rent con game played at the end. If you go, DO NOT TIP. YOU ALREADY...
Read moreHonestly I did not understand why this restaurant is in the best 101 steak restaurants of the world. Visiting Florence with family decided to give it a try and add another restaurant of the 101 list to my own. Made a reservation and could be fit that very night. Never go there without a reservation: wait list is usually long. The restaurant itself is nice but nothing really special about it. I sincerely don’t think the restaurant needs to be fancy or sophisticated to be a good one, as long it is comfortable as the food is the one I am focused on. Service was ok, friendly and young staff,. The salon is a bit noisy and very crowded as it is a very touristic restaurant… but we were fine with that too. Let’s talk about the food. That is what really matters. And well. I wish I could tell you different but the food we ordered was a really average and we were expecting a Best 101. Salad wa nice, but far from special. Good ingredients, olive oil and that’s it. The pasta dish we ordered (a papardlle with a wild boar ragout) was average being optimistic. The French fries were the same. No flaws but average. And the meet you must be asking! Well. The meet was the deception. Boring. Very e expensive and very small portions for the buck! Cooked at the correct point we ordered, but no char flavors, no crispy crust. Nothing. Very regular and average steak. Disappointing. To be fair with the restaurant their crudo di manzo was really nice and by far the best dish that night.
I’ve been to at least 10 restaurants of the 101 list. This one was by far the less exciting of them all. I’m not saying it is a bad restaurant. It is not. We had a good meal there. An expensive and ordinary good meal. But being in a list like 101 comes with a responsibility. You should exceed on every aspect, specially in the steaks. I can name you dozens of steak houses around the world that are years light better than this one and are not...
