Honestly I did not understand why this restaurant is in the best 101 steak restaurants of the world. Visiting Florence with family decided to give it a try and add another restaurant of the 101 list to my own. Made a reservation and could be fit that very night. Never go there without a reservation: wait list is usually long. The restaurant itself is nice but nothing really special about it. I sincerely don’t think the restaurant needs to be fancy or sophisticated to be a good one, as long it is comfortable as the food is the one I am focused on. Service was ok, friendly and young staff,. The salon is a bit noisy and very crowded as it is a very touristic restaurant… but we were fine with that too. Let’s talk about the food. That is what really matters. And well. I wish I could tell you different but the food we ordered was a really average and we were expecting a Best 101. Salad wa nice, but far from special. Good ingredients, olive oil and that’s it. The pasta dish we ordered (a papardlle with a wild boar ragout) was average being optimistic. The French fries were the same. No flaws but average. And the meet you must be asking! Well. The meet was the deception. Boring. Very e expensive and very small portions for the buck! Cooked at the correct point we ordered, but no char flavors, no crispy crust. Nothing. Very regular and average steak. Disappointing. To be fair with the restaurant their crudo di manzo was really nice and by far the best dish that night. I’ve been to at least 10 restaurants of the 101 list. This one was by far the less exciting of them all. I’m not saying it is a bad restaurant. It is not. We had a good meal there. An expensive and ordinary good meal. But being in a list like 101 comes with a responsibility. You should exceed on every aspect, specially in the steaks. I can name you dozens of steak houses around the world that are years light better than this one and are not in the list.

For those who know me, I enjoy a high quality well cooked juicy steak, so naturally I was very excited to try this restaurant, as it is the most famous in serving Fiorentina style steak (closest to Tomahawk) in the city. I tried different meat cuts in Italy, but I was never impressed, but trust me this restaurant will change your mind. Make sure to book at least days in advance as most likely it will always be fully booked regardless the time of the day. At the entrance you can see how they store and dry age their meat in the big fridges, and you can immediately notice the high quality of their steak cuts. The restaurant inside has a lovely poshy atmosphere with quite a wine collection hanged on the wall. Once we got the menu, to my surprise the prices were quite decent given the restaurant's fame and it's proximity to city center. There was a Florentine steak offer for 2 including a 2 glasses of wine, an assorted plate of ham, cheese and 2 bruschettas, a side of potato wedges and a fresh salad for under 80€, which is a brainless deal by my standards, given that the steak size is usually around 1kg (2.2lbs). We ordered the steak medium rare (usually the best cooking temperature for that steak style). If you are not a seasoned steak eater, I would suggest ordering your steak medium. Generally they have other types of steak if no one will share with you, like ribeye and Black Angus cuts. We also ordered a potato tortelli with ragu, the sauce was decadent and the meat so soft. We tried another potato tortellini with with mushroom and truffles sauce and topped with fresh truffle. I highly recommend this creamy dish for truffle lovers. I was so full in the end, so I wasn't able to get any dessert, but maybe if I visit again one day, which is highly likely :D, I will be more than happy to try other steak cuts and food items on the menu.

- Taste & Food Quality: Having ordered a medium rare T-bone steak (Bistecca Alla Fiorentina), I must say the meat was still rather hard to cut and chew through. Halfway through, it was getting harder to eat so I kinda lost interest in the meal. However the first few chops with salt were amazing. (3) - Atmosphere: Nothing amazing, but not too shabby as well. Just felt like a regular old Italian restaurant. (3.5) - Cleanliness: Didn’t see anything dirty. (5) - Service: Unlike the other reviews here, online reservations worked. However, there is a bit of a delay in receiving the confirmation for your reservation: the email clearly notifies you will receive a confirmation within 30 minutes, but I received mine around 24 hours later, so this could be different for others. With the confirmation email, I entered the restaurant in 10 minutes time. As for the service within the restaurant… it felt like the staff wanted you in and out quickly. Most of the staff members seem to be short in experience, and there just seems to be more room for improvement overall in terms of service. (2) - Price: I was able to get cheaper and better T-bone steak throughout my week long trip in Florence. (2) - Likelihood to Revisit: All things considered, nah. (1) Total score: 2.75/5.00

TLDR: Touristy as expected next to Duomo, try Antico Ristoro Cambi instead (local recommendation), steak is a huge level up & also 50/kg instead of ~130/kg. Food: we came with high hopes, but were disappointed by the steak’s sinew & toughness for the price point. The Rubia Gallega T-bone we got (128€/kg) by the server recommendation was well-seared, and rare inside (good). However, it was not very seasoned and wish it had more flaky salt on top. The meat surprised us by being quite chewy, low marbling, and it had a lot of cartilage and sinew inside. For this price point, we felt very disappointed. Part of this could be mismatched expectations; if we had known more, we would have rather spent more on the wagyu. The server was understanding and tried to offer limoncello for the subpar experience. Service & Atmosphere: pretty good. The waiters were very polite and happy to recommend in English, so we appreciated that greatly! Waiting: roughly 40 minutes without reservation as we were lucky to pick up a kind stranger’s spot as they did not want their spot anymore. Easily 1-2 hours otherwise.
