Amazing meats… slightly improbable pasta;
The only reason I am not giving the 5 star to this legendary place is because they have a reputation they meet to live up to and I was a tiny little bit disappointed with their ravioli. Other than that, I would definitely try again. Not only the atmosphere is familiar, Cousy and welcoming, the moment you sit down here you feel you’re at home and the tiny yet profesional well managed kitchen makes you feel like your own brother is cooking for you. I had very high expectations about this place and may be that’s why the ravioli disappointed a bit. However they know their meats, and most importantly how to cook them. Very family oriented place loved by locals tried by tourists and high food quality products. Focused menu which makes your life easier and very close staff. Atmosphere is so familiar that you feel at home. And that’s because they don’t have too many tables to accommodate big crowds. Which is why makes this place kind of unique. Given the fact what Firenze is packed with tourists at all times; the crew here knew very well how to handle their customers which I appreciate. Even though they know 98% of them won’t come back. I will for sure next...
Read moreI first visited this trattoria back in 1998 when I was studying Italian here in Florence. The city was very different then we felt like the only Americans. The staff at this tractor Rio is very welcoming. We felt like family. We came twice a week for a month. I've just returned to Florence for the first time since then and I made it a point to come back. Even though the staff is entirely different, it retained that welcoming vibe the team worked like a Swiss watch serving up dish after dish like a weld choreographed dance. The flavors transported me back to the Florence I remembered those decades ago. You will have many choices here in Florence. Many of them with outstanding terraces and views that are once in a lifetime. But if you have the days and you want an authentic Florentine trattoria experience, I highly recommend you come here. I spoke with the current owner who would have been 7 years old when I last visited, but it's clear that their philosophy hasn't changed at all. Put this on your list if you've...
Read moreWe went for dinner on a recommendation for their bistecca and made a reservation. Glad we made the reservation, because it is a very small, busy and crowded little place. We shared a table in the back with a lovely couple of Italian men who were kind enough to share some information about the amazing pasta dishes they had ordered and were promptly served. Unfortunately our waiter seemed to overlook everything we ordered after the bruschetta. Once our bistecca was done and served I had to remind him that we had ordered salad and wine when we sat down. He threw some lettuce in a bowl and put it on the table and poured a little carafe of wine from a giant box, set that down and he left. The bistecca was enormous and delicious. Everything else was inedible and not potable. Very disappointing after having had amazing meals and service at other restaurants in town with much better ambiance. Don't waste your time...
