Changed from 1* to 2* I will elaborate below
Edit: Albert, presumably the owner or manager, came up to us and asked us if everything was fine and I told him what I wrote below, in not so many words. He understood, explained that he felt sorry that we had a bad experience and that he prides himself on his selection of meats and the resulting bistecca. Mistakes and misfortunes can of course happen and he was very pleasant and understanding.
We will write it up as a mishap and since the service was very good and the resolution of it (he reduced the bill substantially without us asking) I changed it from 1 to 2 stars pending another visit sometime in the future.
Below you can find the still true review of our eating experience :
The tartar tastes of nothing but the vinaigrette and is definitely to warm. It comes with a "brioche" which is colored pink, which I do t mind at all, but it tastes and feels. Like a kitchen sponge.
Main course :
The meat is real nice in the window. They show you your cut before cooking, it was cut a little crooked but thinner at the fattier end, which can work.
I now believe this was not intentional.
The cook was very hot on the outside giving it a nice, but very thin crust. We ordered it medium. The inside was almost medium, somewhat undercooked, more towards English.
The meat was tough.
The meat wasn't salted and no amount you add after the cooking can bring out the flavor.
You now have a tough piece that is a little salty on top.
The fat which would have maybe saved the dish towards a mediocre taste, was almost raw and inedible.
The sides:
A salad, simple enough, but wilted and undressed. Let's say this is because of the high temperatures outside and maybe it sat a while to long.
The spinach was neither salted nor softend through the cooking. It tasted bitter.
All in all a horrible meal giving the price tag of around 155 euro for 2.
Drinks were fine, bread was tasty.

Read moreWe recently dined at Ristorante Boutique Vetreria, and while the food was nothing short of exceptional, the service—particularly from our waitress—left much to be desired. I wish I could give this a 5 star but I’m giving it a 3 because the service was so bad.
Let me start with the positive: the kitchen truly delivers. Every dish we ordered was beautifully presented and bursting with flavor. The beef fillet with truffle, lasagne with Bolognese, and octopus with mixed vegetable purée were perfectly cooked, and the seasoning was spot on. Even the appetizers and desserts showed great attention to detail and creativity. It’s clear the chefs here are both passionate and highly skilled.
Unfortunately, that level of care did not extend to the service. Our waitress seemed uninterested and inattentive throughout the evening. She barely made eye contact, offered no recommendations, and acted as though every interaction was a burden. We ordered wine that never arrived. We would have kindly asked for it again, but she never returned to our table—not even once to check in. We also never received plates for the oil and bread that were brought out.
What could have been a five-star experience was marred by a lack of basic courtesy and attentiveness from our server. It’s frustrating to see such outstanding food paired with such unprofessional front-of-house service.
I would still recommend the restaurant for the food alone, but be prepared for a less-than-welcoming service experience—at least if you end up with the same waitress. From what we could tell, the other waiters seemed attentive, so hopefully it was just...
Read moreVetreria is a special treat just around the corner from the Duomo. I stumbled onto Vetreria while looking for a pizza for lunch last Summer. One peak inside told us this was not your typical tourist turn-and-burn joint. Our pizzas were a delightful twist on traditional recipes, while not deviating too much.
Vetreria has an extensive Tuscan and Italian wine list and our waiter (who we later learned is the owner) was extremely helpful in helping us pair our wine with our meal, as well as suggesting something different for the next bottle.
While I found the pizza to be one of the best I’ve ever had (after many trips to Italy, New York, Chicago etc) the owner informed us that the menu had been dramatically pared down in response to Covid.
We returned a few days later to a wonderful menu. We enjoyed delectable appetizer of salmon & salmon roe which was designed for Firenze Cocktail week. Our main courses were short ribs, and pork belly and a ravioli stuffed with foie gras with a duck sauce. On a follow-up visit we enjoyed an amazing leek appetizer and a delightful twist on Gnocchi.
We are constantly editing our restaurants that we return to in Florence, Vetreria is bound to stay in the top three for...
