Dalla Padella alla Brace — Restaurant in Matera

Our impromptu visit to Dalla Padella alla Brace in Matera turned out to be a delightful surprise. With most other restaurants fully booked, we stumbled upon this gem and were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food.

Opting for a set of starters to sample a bit of everything, we were treated to local ham, cheese, and the famous Matera paprika, all of which were delicious. However, the price tag of 25 euros for the assortment seemed a bit steep for what was offered, though it did provide a good variety.

Moving on to the main course, I decided to try the chef’s daily pasta special, which turned out to be a mild cream sauce with pistachios. While the flavors were exquisite, the portion sizes were smaller than expected.

Despite the portion size surprise, the atmosphere of the restaurant was pleasant, adding to the overall dining experience. Ultimately, while the prices may be a tad high for the portion sizes, the quality of the food and the ambiance make Dalla Padella alla Brace a worthy dining...

A great restaurant for local food. We had 3 primi and all were incredible - cavalli with chickpea cream, crapiata soup and strascinati with peppers. These 3 dishes were accidentally vegan (we asked the waiter), pasta was fresh and homemade. Loved the crispy brad crumbs on the top. Generous portion sizes. Their house wine was surprisingly good. Arrivati a Matera in serata, abbiamo cercato un locale dove cenare per poi fare un giro serale della città. Ci siamo diretti verso il centro passando davanti questo locale un po' anonimo e dopo aver girato a vuoto sul corso centrale, abbiamo optato per "sbirciare" su tripadvisor perché ci pareva tutto un po' troppo "turistico". Entrati ci hanno fatto accomodare subito e ci hanno proposto un menù alla carta oppure alcuni menù turistici. Con mia moglie abbiamo optato per alcuni piatti singoli (strascinate con crema di peperoni cruschi di Senise e mollica di pane di Matera fritta, un piatto di verdure) e un menù degustazione - brace (antipasto misto di salumi, formaggi, verdure, assaggio di strascinate con broccoli, assaggio di orecchiette con pomodorino, rucola e cacioricotta, arrosto misto e contorno). Il tutto è stato servito in tempi relativamente rapidi e hanno ampiamente soddisfatto il palato! La spesa di fascia medio-bassa (sui 40 euro circa). Unica nota che mi ha lasciato un po' perplesso, se proprio vogliamo cercare il pelo nell'uovo, il fatto che la cameriera, forse per il fatto che fosse a fine serata, era un po' troppo distratta dallo smartphone e alcune volte è stato necessario attendere un pochino per farsi "vedere".
