If a could have put zero, I would have ---

We arrived in matera and saw this restaurant that was so well rated. We had never felt for any tourist trap, but I can tell this restaurant is for sure. We had 2 meals, one was pasta and the other one was a "typical meal". First of all, the pasta had NO TASTE at all. The other plate was a greenpea jam (probably frozen green peas) with an egg in the middle of it and some bread crumbles on top of it. I asked for my egg well cooked. I thought the server understood because he said "yes, well done". When our plates arrived, the first meal looked like pasta, but the second one was more like a raw egg in the middle of a frozen greenpea jam. Also, the plate arrived in like 10 minuts after we ordered... this is suspicious..

We really kindly (and still, with a smile) said that we did not like our plates (this is unusual for me to say such a thing in a restaurant), but they said it was a misunderstanding from our part of their plates and we paid the whole 40 euros bills....

We would have liked maybe a little reduction of our bill.. instead they said it was our fault.

AVOID AT ALL COST and dont listen to the...

Very nice restaurant, the atmosphere, the wine list and menu were all very good.

Given the prices I need to raise the bar a bit and compare with other top tier restaurants we tried, and it’s here I believe there is room for improvement.

Service feels very rushed, we ordered a good bottle of wine €45+ that had not being opened for 10 minutes and suddenly the antipasto and the rest of the dishes showed up at the same time. Waiter made comments about bringing an ice bucket stating that it was red wine, I understand if it was tempered to 15c which was not. It’s June, ambient temperature is 25+

I wanted to save the night and finish savoring the bottle with a couple of desserts. Instead of the fruit cheesecake they brought I think a Semifredo Pannacotta. I don’t mind evaluating the alternative if the cheesecake was not available, but trying to make us think it was the same dessert is not proper.

I do a lot of restaurant reviews a year, and always try to be constructive and balanced, in this case I believe there is clear room for improvement, the food is good, but other restaurants in Matera are clearly ahead, especially when it comes to...

Visitato mesi fa. Bentornati a casa.

I know, I know, I’m starting to sound like a broken record about just how mind-bogglingly, tear-inducingly beautiful Matera is. But, it’s not just worth visiting for the views. In between gawping at its splendour and taking a bajillion photos of every corner, there’s actually a fair bit to do and see in the city. I’ve compiled a few of my favourite experiences, things to do, eat and see in Matera: THINGS TO DO: - Matera has a number of ancient cave churches dotted around the Sassi, filled with frescos and other fascinating historic details. - You can also visit old cave homes which have been converted into museums, to experience how inhabitants used to live. - Casa Noha is a converted 16th century home in the Sassi that has been turned into a multimedia exhibition telling the history of Matera - Stay in a cave hotel to really appreciate the historical dwellings that make the city so unique. I stayed in Caveoso Hotel, and some other good looking options are Aquatico Cave Luxury Hotel, Sextantio Le Grotte Della Civita, and Sant’Angelo Luxury Resort. - Matera overlooks a dramatic gorge, and it’s a great hiking route for a spectacular view back over the city. I didn’t have time on my trip, but it’s on the bucket list for next time! DINING AND DRINKING: - Zipa Cafe, a must visit cafe and cocktail bar built into the rocks - La Lopa, a cosy, rustic traditional restaurant serving up hearty local fare - Regiacorte, a chic fine dining spot offering spectacular terrace views - 5 Lire Matera, a quick serve pizza joint with a balcony overlooking the Sassi - Area 8, an achingly hip multi-purpose venue that serves up food and drink, as well as DJ sets and live entertainment. Wes Anderson has been here, so if that’s not a seal of approval I don’t know what is. - Crialoss Cafe for a spritz with panoramic views Let me know if you have any other Matera recommendations, or what else you’d like to know! #italiait #visititaly #visititalia #italytravel #italy_vacations #italy_destinations #italyholiday #travelitaly #uktravelblogger #matera #materatravel #materaitaly #visitmatera #europe_vacations #europedestinations italy travel destinations, matera italy travel

We had a mixed experience, which leads me to give it 3 out of 5 stars. The meal started off on a positive note with a well-prepared appetizer, which was quite enjoyable. My favorite dish was the fave&chicory, which was deliciously prepared and met my expectations. However, the experience took a downturn with the bacala. It was supposed to be fried but arrived undercooked, which not only spoiled the dish but also caused us to feel unwell afterward. This was quite disappointing and a significant detractor from the overall dining experience. Additionally, the portion sizes were rather small, leaving us wanting more. While some elements of the meal were enjoyable, the issues with the bacala and the small portions overshadowed the positives. Overall, La Lopa has potential, but there are important areas that need improvement.

What a wonderful experience at La Lopa! The atmosphere is super friendly and warm, whether for lunch or dinner. The baccalà appetizers were delicious and incredibly fresh. We then ordered the local entrecôte, which was of truly great quality, and the cooking was perfect! We paired it with a local aglianico. Our server informed us that the meat was sourced from the region. He was super efficient and friendly, which contributed to the great service. The place is beautiful—I'd describe it as chic yet relaxed. It has an original vibe while still feeling authentic. We also loved the little cinema in the basement, which adds a unique touch to the charm of the restaurant. Highly recommend this spot to anyone looking for great food and a cozy vibe!
