Nice view shown of the Duomo if one sits outside. But it was a little chilly as the sun went down, and the side of the cathedral one could view was largely covered by scaffolding and a huge clothe that simulated what is underneath. So we sat inside when presented with that option. So of course, that "atmosphere" was not as nice as it would have been outside; nor would the view from outside with the scaffolding and cover have been as nice as it was pictured.
The menu we were presented with was much, much less extensive than what we viewed on line. The food was okay and came reasonably promptly; I would have rated that higher if we had actually been presented with some of the choices shown online that had drawn us there. Several people served us, and we asked two of the waiters to make sure that they noted us being there, as there would be a no-show charge if that wasn't done. Then the next day we got a question from OpenTable about why we didn't attend! My rating on service would have been better had that not happened.
Note that the "entrance" is very hard to find. Maio is actually on the top (7th) floor of the Rinascente Milano department store on one side of a large food court. Down a side street from the main entrance facing the Duamo (cathedral) is the direct entrance (without going through the department store). It is just before a side entrance to the department store. Inside is an elevator that only takes one to...
Read more🙅🏻♀️Tourists do not come here!!🙅🏻♀️ Instead I would highly recommend Obica next door which also has good food AND amazing service!!
Food was decent and nice view of the Duomo. But service was insanely appalling. I'm shocked to read similar recent reviews from tourists as well so I'm sure this isn't unusual here.
When we first seated, we were asked by a waiter holding a bottle of prosecco if we would like some prosecco. Slightly deceiving some might mistake it as a welcome drink in the way they presented it. Nevertheless we were looking at other drinks so we politely declined. From that moment on, they started actively ignoring our table.
We had to call the service staff a couple of times to order despite them serving most of the other guests around us. Beer ordered but did not come. Did not order bottled water but it was still on our bill. In our 1.5h there we probably spent 30-40 min waiting for them to serve us. They actually offered desert to the guests adjacent to us when clearing their plates, but we had to request. Nevertheless, after requesting the dessert menu we waited about 15-20 minutes for them to serve us, after we called them twice more to let them know we were ready to order desert. Same for the bill, when we requested for the bill we sat there and waited for about 10-15 more minutes. But when we still couldn't call anyone to serve us we eventually walked to the service station to settle...
Read moreLocation: ideally situated next to the Duomo, with a unique ans stunning view The restaurant is located on a rooftop and shares the last floor with other restaurants and shops.
Staff: very friendly and professional and you are served by several people
Food: a bit disappointed about the variety of Italian food, we didn’t find the basics or maybe we lack of knowledge about the Italian cuisine: no pasta, nor lasagna, nor pizza for this restaurant. But the fact remains, the dinner offering is limited and it’s a good sign! :) Cooker may master their cuisine.
But, regarding the pricing: It’s out of everyone’s budget and quite expensive. The first course was very tasty; The second course I took: the Maiolino is 24€, and I was a bit disappointed . It looked like terrine, and tasted like terrine.
Finally, if you have dinner, please note they close the kitchen at 10pm, and we were told we could not have the dessert :( The waiter said it was not possible to have a dessert, but we have asked to another waiter who agreed, or were able to bring us the dessert…
We ended up with a bill of +130€ for 4 courses (see photos), 2 coffee, 1 dessert, 1 bottle of water, 1 aperol. Would not especially recommend
Thank you anyway...
